My Haplochromis Brownae has spat her fry!! It is a couple of days early and has caught me on the hop a bit. This is my first breeding of mouth brooders so I need some advice on feeding the fry and when to remove the mum. I first saw them Friday morning so I need to start feeding them ASAP.

Thanks, Mark.

Hi, I'm a beginner with mouthbrooders too but my peacock cich has been brooding and three weeks later (now) she is eating then spitting tiny food particles into a large plant. Haven't seen the fry yet but I'm hoping she's feeding them herself. Other experts on this site may know better though.

Is the fry in your main tank or in a seperat tank? If in main tank there is not a lot you can feed them that the other fish wont eat. If in a seperat tank then move the female out but dont put her in the main tank as she will be week because she has not eaten for 2-3 weeks. You will need to feed her up for a few days. Feed the babys on baby brine shrimp and crushed spirelina, then move on to flake and other live/frozen food. Hope this helps.
