Just in the middle of a water change when the heater starts smelling horrible like its burning, i go closer to it andi ts the heater! I quickly took ouit the betta and put her in a bowl, should i of took her out? I thought maybe it could harm her some how! Dont know if to turn the heater back on, but why could of it suddenly started burning?

did the heater become exposed to air?

It may not be broken, but as a precaution. I'd change it. Ive done this before, and once i filled the tank back up with cooler water, the whole heater cracked and fell to bits.

how dose it being exposed to air breack it wen i do water changes it gets exposed to air but mines never broke.

The air outside the water is cooler and when hglass quickly cools it can shatter or shrink causing the inside components to frazzle

the fish is in a bowl for now im gonna try the heater and see if it works for about 15mins then put fish back in. The only alternative I have is a heatmat!

The heaters working i think well the red lights on, ill just have to see if the temp rises. Now Angel is getting annoyed and trying to jump out of the bowl!

yh check the temp and is there somethink over the bowl there good at finding small gaps to jump out.

I think its broke, the red lights not on anymore when it should be because the temp is 70 and ive set it for 79. My mum payed £15 for the heater and ive gone and broke it! :( The bowl shes in has 4 inches gap so she cant get out.

heat mats under now but wont it melt the tank feet their plastic? For some odd reason the heater lights back on now its off again!
i dont want my betta to die cause she'll get too cold!
