I have an opaline gourami that I think has the shimmies because as he swims he shakes back and forth as he swims. Is this the shimmies and if it is how do I cure it?

Need to no water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph,plus temp, how many gallons is the tank, plus how many fish and which type, any flicking and rubbing against objects, laboured breathing, any small grains of salt like spots, or yellow to gold dusting on them with velvet also can be a rust colour, any red inflamed gills, or pale, or shiny looking gills.

ammonia- .0 nitrite- .0 nitrate- .0 ph- 6.8 And no he is in a holding tank because I didn't want him to infect my pleco before I put the pleco in my long 20 gallon and once I get the pleco out he will have the 10 gallon to himself until I either treat him or see if my lps can treat him and re sell him. And he has none of the things that you listed.

Shimmies

Symptoms:

This disease is named for the curious behavior seen in afflicted fish. Fish will swim with an odd, shimmying movement of the body. If left untreated, the afflicted fish will become unable to swim and will sit on the bottom, listlessly shimmying. This disease affects mostly livebearers, and particularly Mollies.

Cause:

Cause unkown but may be due to a variety of numerous pathogens, including protozoan, bacterial, and fungal.

Treatment:

Isolate the fish in a hospital tank and increase the temperature to 85°F (27°C). Treat with a broad spectrum antibiotic. Also ensure that the water chemistry is within acceptable ranges. Livebearers' should always be kept in water that has a pH of 7.8 - 8.3 and a hardness of 15°DH+.

Well is a gourami a live bearer? If so my p.h. is 6.8 is that bad, if so will a vacum cleaning fix it up?

Ph is fine, you will need to use antibiotics, good luck, mainly seen in livebearers, but like other deseases other fish can get them.

GOURAMI DISEASE
Fish rocks back and forth while staying in place. Dactylogyrus parasites (monogenetic trematodes*) Use PARASITE GUARD. Use heavy aeration, as dead parasites may otherwise cause water to become cloudy.

HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!! I just turned the light on in my 10 gallon tank that has the gourami in a holding tank he has ich very, very, very bad. He has those salt sprinkles all over his body. :( He is now back in a 1 gallon tank and is now being treated with nox-ich and also when I found him he was lifeless on the bottom of the holding tank and thats how he is now only he comes up every once in awhile. Will he be ok, I don't want to lose him?

turn the temp up to 80 and keep the tank dark and keep treating.

Sorry can't do that because he is in a 1g tank with no heater so the light is his only source of heat and a heavy towel I wrap around him. I thought I had this treated the last time I cured him which was about a week ago. I feel so stupid. :*)

You might want to check the other tank he was in for whitespot as well, and if they have it might as well put him back and treat in there, good luck.

No actually like I said he was in a holding tank that has no openings for water to flow through it just an air pump. And now I just noticed he looks bloated, is he constipated as well?

With parasites you can get secondary bacteria infections, what do you feed the fish, what does it look like when he goes to the toilet, can he maintain his balance in the water, any scales sticking out like a pinecone.

I've never seen him poop but the poop on the bottom of the holding tank is brown. And he doesn't seem to be able to keep his balance very well as he swims. And I feed them flakes. And no scales sticking out like a pinecone.
