As we all know - Betta fish have very unique personalities. Casper, my Betta (The guy in my picture over <<<<<) loves to be where the action is. He lives in my 20 gallon tank in my room with three otto's as his tank mates. A sweet setup right? Wrong
As I said, he loves to be where the action is. A month ago my 20 gal developed a leak (I have a frisky husky, it was an accident, a lamp fell on the tank, these things happen)
For the three days it took me to fix the tank Casper lived in his old 5 gal on the kitchen counter. (It took three days because I fixed it, put water in it and realized I hadn't totally fixed it)
ANYWAYS Casper LOVED his vacation to the kitchen, he followed my mom around while she made dinner and had a jolly old time.
When I moved him back into the 20 gal he did fine. But I'm only in my room to do bedroom stuff like sleep, not the most action-y place for the adventuresome Casper.
It's been about three weeks and for the last two at least I have noticed his fins getting a tad ragged - I've read on here that he could be biting his own tail. Which seems to be the only explanation, as there is no plastic plants and the filter is on its lowest setting and there are hardly any other tank mates.... My mother - the brilliant person that she is says that Casper could be bored. If we had more counter space she would love to have him in the kitchen - but we are tight on space as it is.
My solution is to move Casper to my 30 gal in the living room. It's a community tank.
Before we freak out, I was planning on making a DIY tank divider and giving Casper his 5 gal of heaven. He loves action, and the living room is pretty action packed, in theory he would enjoy it. And if he didn't, there's always the 20 gal in my room he can move back to.
I've thought of adding toys for him but I don't think it's the same as him getting to observe everything his people do. I just feel like watching what we do all day is TV for him, and my other fish get to do it, why shouldn't he?
Does anyone see any flaws in my plan? I want to make sure I have my bases covered.
(My stock is listed in my sig, the 30 gal is pretty barren as it is so there is room for him)
