This is the biggest tank i've ever put together, and quite frankly, i am amazed at the sheer size and beauty of this tank, my 5 year old niece could swim in it!

Anyways it's the new home of an oscar that is currently holding in a small 20gallon to be put in this tank ASAP.

First off, i noticed bubbles, lots and lots of little bubbles sticking to the plants(fake), filter stick, walls of the aquarium, heater, etc etc, is this normal and will i wake up tomorrow and it be gone?

Also i rinsed the gravel fairly well, and even started filling up the tank about quarter of the way when i noticed some setament(Spelling?) floating at the top that was the color, or at least appeared the color of the gravel, i then siphoned the quarter of the water that was in it, and filled again.

When i got it filled to the top, i noticed that stuff was still there, will this settle and/or be filtered out? and is it harmful for my fish?

Thanks in advanced for helping me out, i am really excited to see my oscar grow to full size. :hyper:

Yes it will be OK - Did you rinse the tank with a mild detergent first ?
Gravel (small type) has a grease to it, which often forms on the surface of your tank.

Once your filters running, check again and in 24 hours it should be gone. Im not being funny but your not putting the oscar in straight away are you ?

Might be worth putting your old water in with him too when you eventually put him in the new tank.

If you speak to your LFS and get some ammonia you can get a good cycle going in a week or 2.

I didnt rinse the tank with a detergent, i simply wiped it with a wet paper towel, my filter is running right now, and no my oscar is not in the tank yet, i set it up at about 1 am, i was going to give it 24 hours to run and filter the water and etc.

Is 24 hours enough time?]

That grease is not harmful?

OK, your smaller tank is 20 gallons right?

New tank 50.

You could fill the tank up 10% with fresh water, and use the existing filter from the 20 gallon, the existing water and transfer the oscar over....

Then gradually fill it up during water changes, running the new filter at the same time as the old, add some bacteria boost to the new filter and give it 2 weeks or so (testing for ammonia).

This should work out witha bit of pre-planning.

My 55G is already filled with fresh water, and proper chemicals.

Yes I realise that :p

I was merely trying to speed up the cycling process :p

No wories, in which case take some of the filter media from your current filter, place it in the new filter, purchase some ammonia (I tend to use snails but thats just me)) and cycle/test the tank for 2 weeks at least. Wait until your redings are zero, then add mr Oscar.

My oscar has more than out grew the current tank, which is completely my fault for not getting a bigger tank sooner, but the filter just cannot handle the mess he makes anymore, i want to do it the right way, but also in a timely manner.

if you use established media it may only take a few days. if you put him in now then he may not make it!

The bubbles are there simply because you put water in. The water you put in catches a lot of air and deposits bubbles everywhere. The sedimanet thats floating will become water logged and sink, or be sucked into the filter very soon. if not, just net it and rinse it off in the sink.

good things come to those who wait..... there's the right way.... or there's the fast way..... which do you think Oscar would prefer? :look:

Are you taking the 20 gallon down completely? If so, simply move all the filter media from the old filter to the new one and you should be fine. You will not be moving all your bacteria but certainly enough that the colony can replenish itself in about 24 hours or less.

You guys are saying filter media and i dont understand it, do i take the old filter and put it in the new filter set up?
