hi its only £30 pound and its around the 4 gal mark. anyway ive been reading up on
dwarf puffers and it says that they require a minimum of 3 gal. do you think i should get one.
i have done my reserch on them and know exacly how to have the tank. i need dark sand subtrate
because these fish have no scales and are very delicate. pleantly of plants etc. and lots morw.
what do you think

I have a dwarf puffer in a 5 gallon. Keep it on there own with no other fish. Puffers are very sensative to bad water quality, I cycled my tank for 3 months before putting one in. A dark sand substrate would be ideal and also add some plants and furishings to provide hiding places for your puffer. Keep 02 levels up and instal a filter aimed for tanks larger than your tank.

Diet is important for puffers. They only accept frozen and live foods. I feed mine mainly on frozen bloodworm but also on shrimp, live brineshrimp, and live daphnia. They will also need a regular supply of snails to prevent there teeth from growing too large.
Carry out a 30% water change a week and be careful not to syphon them through the tube.

Puffers have great personalities and will watch you from the glass, although if you do get one do plenty of research first.

you get a filter with it yes
if you want the heater its an extra 7 pound but i have one spare one

i have my dwarf puffer in a 5gallon too with 2 ottos, and it does fine. the tank was already cycled with guppies but like someone said, they need excellent water quality.having a nice dark substrate, lots of live plants and caves for hiding places and the puffer will be happy. again, feeding is important, i feed mine live bloodworms one a week, and frozen bloodworm/brineshrimp and sometimes treats like krill/tubifex worms or whatever the fish shop has to offer, if my livebearers are having too many fry, i toss a handful in.cruel i know, but i belive its the best thing i can do,since i dont want them, and im guessing the puffer will kill them quickly with no pain.snails are also important, i breed common snails just to feed my puffer, he gets about 5 a day, but varies sometimes.(depending on snail stock) the best thing to do, is the set-up your tank, add the filter/heater, plants, substrate and whatever else, then get some common snails, add them to a small tank( i have mine in a 5 litre water bottle) and do lots of research, as your tank cycles and your snail population grows, you spend the time researching and after all is over, add your puffer and all is well.(thats the plan anyway)
ive found they are easy to keep once you know what your doing. lots of research and asking questions helped me a lot. i carry out a 20% water change weekly and vacumm the gravel every 2 weeks.

actualy i wont need 440 gal tank J4MES because as you might not know i have took all those fish back to the fish
shop including the common plec so. :shout:

Umm don't you think you should be getting a 400G+ tank for all the fish you already own?

Well, I think that was just plain rude on your part J4MES. If you had nothing to add why stop in here just to post something rude based on a past post? I guess it's time to see if the report function is worth anythig in this forum!

report me? thats just rediculous. Rude? How was it rude? I was suggesting that before they put anything else on their plate they should sort out whaat they already have, but now that i assume blackmolly3 isn't lying about getting rid of their fish i will shut up and relate to the topic in hand.

Here is a good link on keeping dwarf puffers http://badmanstropicalfish.com/profiles/profile93.html

The report is already in. And I see nowhere in the original post,or after, that BlackMolly is asking about his other tanks and fish. The post you entered had nothing to do with the question put to the forum. What was ridiculous was your first reply - totally uncalled for, off topic, and just plain and simple rudeness on your part. There was no reason at all for your first reply other than to criticize BlackMolly. Maybe when you can admit that we'll believe anything else you have to offer.

I have to agree with tmack, that was totally uncalled for.
Black Molly has been asking for advice on another thread and hopefully the other tank is getting sorted.
Anyhow, a Dwarf Puffer should be fine in that tank. They are the cutest little things and you won't regret getting one!
Good luck and let us know how you get on. ;)

yea he asked for help but he didnt listen to much if it when it was given and even added an extra plec when he was told he was overstocked.

he may have sorted it now but thats only after he was told about 10 times.

J4MES is totally right to make sure hes sorted his other problems before taking on more work.

anyway, black molly id look on ebay cos even £30 seems a bit much for a 4g. sure you can find a better deal but then again if its all in and ready to collect as new i guess it mite be worth it for less hassle.

I agree with checking that the tank was sorted but he didn't need to be sarcastic.
It can be frustrating repeating yourself and I've gotten frustrated with people before but Black Molly seems to be taking notice now, so maybe a little encouragement would be better. ;)

Thats just plain rude. Comments like this are the reason why people are leaving this forum or posting threads about how rude people can be.

Grow up.
