i was just saying how laid back Lunar is... well he was hiding his true personality... HES A TOTAL GLUTTON!!!!!

so this morning i did my normal... got up turned my tank light on feed the endlers and then gave Lunar 3 betta pellets. then got dressed and decided to do my water change this morning insead of later on today...

scrubbed the sides of my tank... took out about 2 to 3 gallons of water... everyone in the tank was getting kinda excited as normal because something was going on, and then i must of spooked a cherry shrimp...it swam right out in front of Lunar!!! and then Lunar grabbed him from the side... i grabbed Lunar and was able to get the shrimp off him, but the shrimp tore one of his outside scales. but was holding onto my finger pretty well so i put it back in one of the dence plants, well Lunar was still watching!!! and as soon as my hand was gone went back in for the kill. This time i was too late! the shrimp went head first right into Lunars mouth... there was no saving it this time... so i grabbed my camera...

I lost 8 of my adult cherries and 3 or 4 babies (they were extra in the bag) to my betta sorority  (within a few hrs of putting the shrimp in the tank) people think cherries are too fast for bettas, that thinking is severely underestimating a betta's speed

I would now personally suggest that cherries and shrimp of equal size are kept out of the tank. fingers crossed the lone cherry survives :good:

Amano shrimp are good with bettas, too big for bettas to eat and they put up a good fight. So much so, the the betta/shrimp combination is good to watch. The other day, my dom. female was sat inside a ceramic pot with 2 of my amanos

I would skip feeding lunar for 24hrs, maybe 48hrs tbh. My girls were fat for 3 days, i had to starve them for 4 whole days  that will teach them!

oh i already planed a fast for a day or two... they lasted for the 4 or 5 months i have had Lunar... but not anymore... and i still had 5 that i knew of last wednesday when i switched the tank... i was thinking of an amanos shrimp just cuz they get a little bigger... might be nice...

as i am typing this Lunar is staring at the corner of the tank!!! LMAO and he hasnt been as active i think he is sluggish from being so full....

Lunar also loves the algea wafers i was feeding the shrimp would stay right beside it trying to eat the hole thing before anything else could...

i still cant beleive he swallowed it Hole!!!! WHERE DID IT ALL GO!!!!

it's amazing how much a betta can fit in their tummies. I really do think people underestimate them, 1 thing i have learned from betta keeping is to 'always expect the unexpected'

IMO Amanos are good tank mates but get at least 4, they are more confident as a small group, plus lunar will be taught a very valid lesson if he tried it on with them  2 of my girls had their anal fins ripped (only a small gash) and a couple of scales removed, when they tried to take out my amanos, they never tried since

bettas love the algae wafers, they are greedy pigs! but it is amusing to watch a betta and 2 amanos in a tug of ware over a wafer lol

Hey guys-
let me get this strait... Can betta's live with shrimp? Because if it's a yes, I am going t get some! So, BethK you were saying that Amano's are good- but I don't have a really big tank, 5 gallons. Is that to small for anything??
I've tried ADF but have had bad issues with them (getting eatin, eating stuff, destroying my tank etc.)... So d you think i should try shrimp... what kind?
Zophie

PS is Luner okay? You said that the shrimp tore at one of his fins?
PPS He is such a cool looking betta!

5 gals, you could have 3 amano shrimp. I would personally, only suggest to keeping amanos with bettas x

Oh No the betta tore one of the shrimps scales!!! Lunar is absolutly fine other than been severely bloated!!! and thank you i really love his coloring!!!

Lunar was fine for 4 or 5 months with the shrimp... but just lately like the last 3 weeks has the shrimp been vanishing... and today was the first i ever saw him eat one... the Cherry shrimp was less then an inch long a little over 3/4 of an inch...

i had the same thought about the amano shrimp... i have an 8 gallon tank and with how big they can get i didnt know if my tank was big enough...

they only get 2", that includes their tentacle things, they are very light on the bioload too

thats what i thought but a specialy shop has them and i know at least the one in the tank was over 2
it was a giant... so i was never very sure...

i like having shrimp to clean up all the left over food and what not that falls to the bottom....

i was even thinking about "flower shrimp" (wood shrimp/ or any other name they get called... the ones that filter the water for food) but i know they can get like 3 inches...

Did you get Lunar from a LFS or a breeder? Is he a CT?

Lunar was from Petsmart he was like $6... and yes hes a crowntail...

i have always found beautiful bettas at local petstores... you just got to be PATIENT!!! my first betta was a platinum CT with red pectoral fins He was gorgous!!!! but at the time i have two males in a divided tank and one male jumped the divider!! by the time i got home it was almost too late he was never the same and didnt last very much longer...

i also had a green CT that also had red pectoral fins but he got dropsy! he was my last betta!!!

i dont really have any local breeders around me so i have to be patient and wait for something special and when i find it i make room!!!

i was considering making a sorority but it would take me FOREVER to find all my females!!
