I Need Help

Perhaps tell them you'd be interested in beginning to learn some things about chemistry and environmental science via keeping a fish tank. Ask them if one or both of them might be interested in sharing the hobby with you and tell them there are some articles in our Beginners Resource Center that can be studied prior to making any long-term decisions.

I like the birds and bees idea better reading is always good (even though we all know I didn't do much of it before hand but everything seems to be working out ok)

I would tell them that it will teach you how to take care of something. This is true for any pet. Looking after a pet is a great learning experience.

I would just research alot on a few certain fish and say if your mums washing up say 'i know you dont think i should get fish .. but did you know: .....* and then to your dad when the adverts are on the tv ay ' did YOU know that this fish:*
If you give them lots of information abotu fish and im not on about 'did you know theres 100's of different catfish!* i mean really look into it, where they orginate from and there scientific names and what they eat i think your parents will know that your not just diving into things your acctually taking it seriously, maybe seriously enough that theyd say yes :D
I did something simular and i got a pair of rats hehe

My advice is
if you read through the forum for advice and guidance, keep lots of notes so you can decide what you want
start small eg 5-7 gallon with a betta and a few cory catfish is my suggestion ,
work out what it would cost assuming parents are paying this may be a factor , local free ads and ebay are good for bargains as well as boot sales.
are you willing to do extra chores t pay if so mention this

explain by starting small you can prove you can look after a pet , and also show that you have loked into keeping fish, costs etc
if you could prove that its not a snap decision and that you are serious thay may give in

remember you will need to care for the fish and and carry out regular water changes and cleaning

Good Luck

The best reason is because watching the tank is a ###### sight more interesting than staring at the goggle box for several hours every night.

Wow, I've been censored; all I typed was '######'.
