I got a betta from a LFS about a week ago that had been mistreated. He was really swollen and his fins were almost gone. Well, since I bought him I've been treating him with Tetracycline and all of his swelling has gone down. Now, I've noticed (only under certain lights) that it looks like he has a 'fuzz' on his back. It's not a thick cottony patch like fungus is always illustrated in books and such. The perfect way for me to describe it is - It looks like when a human has a sunburn and their skin starts peeling. When my betta starts swimming around in excitement you can see this stuff flaking off and floating around in the water. Is this a fungus? Today is his last day on Tetracycline. Should I do a 100% water change tomorrow then give him a couple of days and start an antifungal medication???? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. He acts perfectly happy. He swims around a lot-he doesn't scratch or shimmy or anything. He's eating like a little piggy and he's even blowing lots of bubblenest.

Again, any help would be perfect!!

Thanks.

sorry dont know enough to help you.....just keep this to the top of the "Betta bit!" :good:

First sorry for not reply to your pm, I accidently deleted it   But what I would do is after his last round on tetracycline, do a 100% water change, give him a bit of aquarium salt and clean water, and leave him in that for a few days (to get the other meds out of his system, you don't want to stress him by pumping to many meds into his system) then after a few days start him on a round of maracyn 1 and maracyn 2 combined.

That's okay. It's no big deal. I felt really bad about bothering you with that anyway. He's acting fine so I'm not to the point of freaking out...I just want to make sure I get him better. He's so sweet. Anyway, thanks for the help. Should I administer this to him the same way as the Tetracycline?

i've never had to worry about meds (yet, knock on wood) so i wouldn't know. good job for rescuing him and good luck getting him better. i wanna see pics!

Peeling skin can be a numbr of things bacterial to parasite, even bad water quality.
Just keep going with the tetracycline.
Good luck.
