I have been doing alot of reading and have some questions about filtration.

I am going to be setting up a 60 gallon tank with live rock and Fish maybe down the line I might add an anemone.

Should I use live sand or crushed coral?

Is it true that with Live Sand and Live rock I dont need to use any other filter? Will I be ok with Live rock, live sand, a good skimmer and some power heads?

Any suggestions will be a big help

you should be fine with that set up, just make sure you're powerheads create enough flow. You don't even need to use livesand, it will just help kick start everything. I only used regular sand and now it's "Live Sand". I'm using 120lbs of LR and i have 2 canister filters. In one of the filters I took all the stuff out so now all it does is create flow. Thinkin about doin it with the other one too :S

Avoid crushed coral if possible. The large size of the particles can trap detritus and contribute to nitrates. SH

HI THERE,
I think you better use Live sand If you want to start keeping fish in anweek or so.
But If you have the time to wait 8 to 12 weeks for the regular sand to be mature that's also fine.

Consider building or buying a wet/dry filter, this will help your system to be healthy.

Thanks,
Lewis
