I've got a fish donated to me but I don't know what kind of fish this might be. Anyone...?

Lucania goodei - the red or bluefin killie from Florida. I caught the red finned version in Orlando.

The fry look incredibly like Heterandrai formosa mini livebearers, and I found the best trick for raising them was to keep the young together. I wondered about it - the adults are in the same habitats and the fry look so so similar.

I used to find them mixed in with feeder guppies when I would visit Maine - the Florida supplier must have had ponds. I couldn't breed them until I caught them in the 'wilds' of the ditches around Orlando airport. The feeder tanks ones were always treated as badly as feeder guppies are, and I could never bring them back around to health.

The same habitat had Lucania goodei, Heterandria formosa, Gambusia affinis, Jordanella floridae and Poecilia latipinna. It was a clearwater "fishtank" 5 metres wide and many km long!

Yes, you're correct. I've already found out what kind of killifish it is.
I got this one donated. So time, to find a partner for this one.
