Hey, I;m new here and I only have fresh water tanks with just your average fish in them, I need all of your help to help me! i want to start an exautic fish tank, but not with salt water fish... Yes they are quite beautifulk but they are just too much of a handleful... So I was wondering if some of you could give me a hand and tell me maybe some variety of fresh water fish and a range of the prices that might go with them? It would be a big help to me! Its just too bad I cant google this and ask for it to tell me cool fish.. Hahahaha So get back to me if you can, this would be amazing to have a big up and running tank by the end of the month...

Oh yes, I already have a big aquarium and pump, I just need the fish to fill it... hahhaha

Thanks a bunch!!!!!

I'll really bite my tongue here :look:

So what average fish do you have at the moment ?

How many tanks do you have and how big are they (pick whichever measurement you like - UK gallons, US gallons, litres or cm / ft).

What size tank do to you envisage getting ? Do you have a budget in mind ?
What do think of as "exautic" ?

How long have you been keeping fish because it is suggested that people that are new to fish should stick with smaller tanks like 29 gallons or less. How big is the tank you have in gallons, what kind of fish do you have in there and how many of each? Do you know anything about cycling a tank?

Hi welcome to the forum

more info on the size of the tank would be useful aswell as the sort of fish you like as chances are the fish i would stock you might not want to.

i would say a larger aquairium is easier to keep than a smaller one going on past experience

Ok. I have two tanks at the moment and there about, 5 to 10 gallons adn they just have they "average" fish, such as gold fish , and plocostumas... ( sorry about my spelling) Ok, i have had lots of diffrent types of fish for about 8 years... I have just lowerd them down now to gold fish.. But i want to start again with more fresh water fish.. By exautic I mean like... Colour full, some what like salt water fish, Excpet I want fresh water fish.. The tank I want to put them in is about 40-50 gallon tank... Its not that big.. But its what I';ve got... So am I being too difficult? Are these stupid questions... Try to bare with me please? I;m new at this...

Hmmm... well for a 40-50 gallon tank i would just suggest chililds

i would suggest move the goldies in the 50 gallon and the plec depending on the type.

in the the 5 to 10 go for a betta tank either 1 male, corries and dwarf frongs or 5 to 6 femals on there own

Hold maybe i have my measurments wrong?? In the 5-10 gallon tank I have now I have a turtle and fish,, and theres still tones onf room.... I wow I'm stupid.!!!!

Ok: here they are

1st tank: 50cmx27cm Height: 30cm
2nd tank: 50cmx27cm Height: 30 cm
3rd tank: 87cmx44cm Height:50

Sorry abut before.. I hope these help...

I agree with the above. BTW do you know Goldfish need at least 8 gallons each? a 10 gallon really isn't big enough for them and a common plec can reach a foot long so needs a tank of over 50 gallons minimum. Both of these need a seriously good filter as they are VERY messy! As mentioned above, do you know about cycling your tank? If you do you'll realise your tank might not be ready for fish by the end of the month.
As for exotic fish, you need your tank, filter and heater. I am currently cycling a 12 gallon which is to hold some cories, a Betta and 2 ADF's. In a 10 gallon you can only have fish which will reach around 2" and aren't too active. You should research the fish you want first to check the tank you get is suitable for them and remember to think about the size they will be when fully grown rather than the size they are when you buy them.
Guppys are probably what you call average fish but have beautiful colourful tails in particular. Bettas as mentioned above are beautiful and full of character, Tetras are popular and very colourful... Why not go to your local pet shop and have a look at their trops and see which you like the look of, the do some research into them and see what suits you?
If you've any quaetions don't be afraid to ask. Its better to do things right and take a bit more time at the start rather than rush it and do it wrong and end up killing your fish or providing them with unsuitable homes. Don't rush to get it set up by the end of the month. The planning is just as much fun as the doing I think!

i work that out as

1st tank 9uk gallons
2nd tank 9 uk gallons
3rd tank 42 uk gallons

your first tanks are to small to healthily keep gold fish and plecs.

your third tank has alot of options but if it was me move the goldies in to it and try and accomodate the plec in a good sized tank as if its a common it should hopefully grow 1ft plus.

Well thanks a bunchf for all of the help! I wioll get on that as soon as I can... :p Oh ya and i already have an exalent pump and I barely have used it., so I might use that... And I have a heater....

thanks again!!!

You have two 10 gallons and 50 gallon. That is in US gallons I will try to find another converter.

Kribensis cichlids are really pretty and can be kept with other aquarium fish.

And if you are able to find a good home for your goldfish and plecs without a heater you could easily use the tanks for zebra danios and white cloud mountain minnows both are very pretty and hardy. I currently keep White cloud mountain minnows in an unheated tank with a small weather loach( it is only 2ft so the weather loach will soon need another home but that is a long story)

I was too late with my measurments so I won't go to any more hassel.
