I Need A Filter

How very rude.

I wouldn't be suprised if nobody wants to help now :(

This reply was not very useful. It neither addressed my orignal question about filters nor did it address my valid point that many threads simply drift to the 3rd page with absolutely mininal (or no) replys. I personal think this forum needs some serious reorganization.

I wonder if it had crossed your mind that this is a forum run by people in their spare time?

If someone views this topic and doesn't have an answer for you, they wont reply. Not everyone is an expert on filtration on here.
If you're that concerned and need answers, Google is your friend and will give you answers a lot quicker than any forum.

Have a bit of courtesy when posting on here.

I guess this post falls into the same category of not being useful. It has not addressed your 'orignal' question about filters nor did it address your so-called valid point about threads drifting.

I agree the forum needs some serious re-organization. Perhaps a prune of users who feel it is their RIGHT to get information and attention from other members with a rude and frankly, ignorant attitude.

Back on topic. Fluval 3+ Can't fault them and use them in both my large tanks.

But thanks to all the others who took time to share your opinions and experiences. That is the value of a forum such as this.

I think you could have supplied more info since you have taken the time to reply back. I'm still wondering about the budget you have in mind for a filter, as well as fish species you are interested in.

Any organization can use improvement, this forum is no different. I think after being a member for 3 days either there are some incredibly serious problems that long term members & mods are not seeing, or you are seriusly jumping the gun.

what's wrong with my post?
I didn't mean your post Kribensis. I was talking about the one that manwithnofish posted in large, bold type which gives the impression (to me nyway) that the poster is yelling beause he hasn't gotten replies. I think you were posting at the same time I was so and your post got between his and mine. Sorry for any confusion.

Okay, i thought that after i posted it. I feel Stupid! Manwithnofish, with the information you are supplying, not much help can be given.

Say what you like. The Large Font drew attention to my question which was quickly drifting into nowhere land. I am wondering, why did anyone put the fonts up there if no one uses them without the message being interpreted as "I'm SHOUTING". Anyway, I'm satisfied that I would not have gotten any replys. This forum simply takes too many hits a day to keep anything on top except the very "hottest" topics. So, maybe it's not what I'm looking for. So be it!

Anyway, for the sake of couriosity, about half the replys were on point, but everyone's favorite was different so ..no consensus... I decided to drive to the LSF (4 hour round trip) and look at all the various models. I came away feeling there isn't an ounce of difference between the canisters I looked at...Marineland, Rena, Fluval. I bought the Fluval 405, SO I now have a filter. Order of value in helping me make an educated purchase of my filter was: books, websites, LFS, pet hampster, poll taken at son's 3rd grade class, and last but not least....you guessed it....this forum. (Just kidding...don't take life so serious).

I can't speak for why the different fonts are there. I have seen them used to emphasize when someone gets a New Tank. When your topic is drifting down, simply post "bump" or "can someone please help" to get it back to the top. It is a very active forum but depending on what time you post, there may not be many people active at that time. For instance, right now, at 11:24 PM EST, there are only 30 members on. That is a very low number compared to most times. It doesn't make any sense that you wouldn't want to be on a forum that was active. If no one posts, what difference if your topic stays at the top? There is a lot of knowledge here to simply give up on.

I think you will be very happy with the Fluval. Just from my time on the forum, I think Eheim has the best reputation but I have 2 Fluvals that are almost 3 years old and I have no complaints at all and would have no problem buying Fluvals again.

Edited for spelling.

How in the name of all things holy can you take the opinion of a hamster over that of a class of third graders?!? A good canister filter will outlive the hamster; a good third grade class will outlive the filter. The third graders I’ve seen love to play in the water; I have yet to see an aquatic hamster. I would have taken the third grader’s opinion over all others in this situation.

Anyhow, enjoy your new filter! :good:

I have been so missing it for so many years, I can not believe how stupid I am. All these years I thought they were a gimmick, now I completely see the usefulness of bio wheels.
