I Must Have The Most Laid Back Betta On The Planet!

LOL I agree with Galanta on Bubbles!

LOL Galanta, that had me giggling and my work mates wondering if I had gone mad...too cute!!

Well, I'm glad I was able to cheer up your work day a little! ; )

Oh all these little guys sound so great! And before i got a betta i never knew what all the fuss was about, i mean i knew i loved the look of them and how graceful and beautiful they looked (even the girls) but i didn't understand the personalities of them and they are

1. Hilarious
2. Mischevouse
3. Very curiouse
4. Absoloutely adorable

As people who have read my other posts will know my two were both rescues.

The Captain was in a very very very bad way when we got him. Since first visiting the shop that he was in all he had done was lay at the bottom of the tank at the mercy of whatever completely un suitable fish they had in with him, they varied from tetras, barbs, silver sharks and even baby fire eels!!! He'd been in there for at least 2 months and i got the impression from the staff that hed been there alot longer as he used to belong to one of the employees who said he just got nipped all the time in his big tank at home. I just thought well duuuhh!!!! So finally one day we went in not expecting to buy any fish and i spotted Radish- more on him later- and my partner said i can'i leave that little guy in there again whilst looking at the captain.

So we brought him home!I bought him for my partner as a gift but he lives at my house, he's got a little tank to himself which is how he likes it, he prefers to be solitary and is enjoying the quiet life. He's learnt how to swim again since his very long fins have repaired and after some persuasion he's now swimming to the top of the water to eat like a piggy lol. I honestly thought he wouldn't last this long. His favourite hangouts are on his heater and on top of his filter which is where he likes to sit whilst he is hand fed lol, he also occasionally likes to play in the current and fight it till he sits on top of the filter, then he jumps off and starts all over again. :D He's a little miricle. And is very old.

Radish too was a rescue but had only arrived at the same shop as The Captain that morning and he was still very young. The oh so intelligent shop staff decided to put him in a 30 litre tank with two medium sized and very aggressive silver sharks, he hid at the front corner of the tank whilst they fought and when i walked past him i thought "Oh you poor baby your the one and i'm guna be your momma!" i had taken a long time reasearching and studying bettas in variouse shops and i fell in love with him. He looked so sad with his little pugnasious face and big blue eye's that just said "Take me home please! Save me!"

So i did lol and the shop charged us £7!! For each of them! I've seen better bettas for £4.50 and they were in tip top condition. I payed it and have no regrets what so ever he's soooo funny! He inspects everything daily and swims through all his silk plants and bosses the kuhli's around in his little kingdom  . He knows when its feeding time and swims to the top of the tank and demands his breakfast and dinner. He's such a pig and even eats the kuhli's algae wafers which he doesnt even like!!! When he eats he eats too fast and gobbles up 2 of his 3 pellets then carries the third in his mouth until he's ready to eat it  He also helps with water changes and follows the gravel vac and siphon tube with avid fasination.

Got to love bettas and i will most deffinately be investing in at least two more!

Radish and the Captain sound great! Got any pics posted somewhere? Fairly new to this forum and would like to see them...

cloud is a very intresting betta...at least i think anyway, i got him from my lfs, when i walked past he came to the front of the tank and followed me so i had to get him, was one of those "love at first sight" kind of moments :) anyhow he is now in a tempary tank but he seems to really like it there! the tank is at the top of the stiars and when ever i go up there he swims from left to right to get my attention untill i go and kneel in front of the tank, he has his own little spot in the temp tank aswell which he always seems to swim in and out of, as if he is doing a show for you....anyway im very happy i bought him, one of the most intresting fish ive ever seen :) and i owe thanks to saltynay lol

""edit""

i forgot to mention he is very calm, he doesnt attack any other tank mates and never chases them, he did live with a guppy and they were fine together and after what ive read about them i do find it odd...

I love that "love at first sight" thing. I didn't know either what the fuss was about and thought oh pretty fish! Calcifer has won both me and my partners hearts over completely! So much so he now has a 10g to himself :)

He is still getting used to his new surroundings but in his old tank would follow finger on the outside, follow mine in the tank, and wrap himself on me in there too! He hasn't in big ol' tank but then he has loads of space - he is sooo nosey, can;t go in there without a "what you doing missus?". Absolutely am in love.

Cloud sounds like a special betta indeed with him and the guppies, Calcifer is calm but wouldn't want to upset him with the guppies I currently have.

Radish and Captain do sound great! The ones I have seen in the shops are £4-5, Calcifer was only £8! You sound a great mum to rescue them. I won't be setting up further tanks for a good while until we see the difference in our electric bills and I finally take the step to set up the huge 160 litre (huge to me!), but I then hope to rescue bettas and have multiple tanks going for them so they can live their days in peace.

Calcifer sounds like a lovely guy.

The other day I saw Azumo swimming in an erratic pattern and I went to see what was going on. Somehow a little fruit fly had gotten into the office and landed on his bowl. He would swim head on trying to grab it (not realizing it was on the other side of the glass) and as soon as he bumped the glass, the fly would take off and land a several inches to the side. And Azumo of course in hot pursuit, straight like an arrow to the new spot, bumping his nose and then whirling to storm for the new landing spot of the fly. If only I had had a camera ...

But in the end I felt sorry for the little fella, so I waived the fly away (well actually I was gonna catch it and throw it in, but it was too fast ...)

AWWWWWW!!!! That is too cute, they are so determined aren't they? Calcifer has been a good boy and learnt to like betta pellets. Alex is dead jealous as Calci will follow my finger anywhere and as soon as he tries he bolts or just looks at the finger like what? HAHAHHAH! Calcifer is so my little boy ;)

Everyones have got wonderful personalities, keep the stories coming :)

Well what can I say. You may have read on the other thread and seen the pictures that the other day got Calcifer flaring for the first time. Well tried again with a mirror and leaving it for a bit. He got incredibly sulky about the whole thing and seemed to blame me entirely! Alex could sit and watch happily but anytime that morning I went near him he flared at me! LOL We have made up since and Calcifer loves me again. He flares occasionally now but it seems almost like a new technique that he is proud of :)

awww my little trooper

And I saw that great shot you posted of him whirling around. He is gorgeous!
