Tell me, times what dosage amount is overdosing excel likely to be harmful to my fish, clams, snails, and plants? I made a major screw up, stumbling as I was dosing the tank. I don't know how much excel I used, but I am sure it's well more than 3 times the normal amount.

In that case do a big 50% water change then another after a day it will reduce it and things will be safe but do it right away!

I would do a 30% tommrow and keep a close eye on your fish over the next few days for gill problems redness or gasping etc and then start again once you can be certain if things are ok as you may lose your fish as you have no idea what you have left in the tank or what the fish have in there bodys!

You want to really get rid off all traces of it to reduce the stress on the fish and start again when things settle! id rather have my fish then plants with no algae!


Sorry misread you last reply! if your water change was befor you added then no the overdose will be in the water colum you need to do a big water change as soon as! the more you do the more you can reduce the toxic effects!

People use 3x overdose regularly to combat algae. But if it was as much as 5x, then yeah I'd do what aibo210 suggests.

i have done a 5x overdose due to my miscalculations i thought i was doing only 3x, it had no effect on anything so whenever i use it i just do 5x (1capful) as it is easier

the only plants that wil be affect badly or plants that are bladderwarts like riccia, UG etc. Vallis & liminophilia sessiflora are also said to react badly.
