I popped into Pets @ Home for dog/cat food,popped over to see the fish,which does sadden me,has i always see dead fish,here's 3 pics i took in the first few tanks i came across,made me cross so i couldn't look at anymore.

I told the girl on the desk has i left but she didn't seem that bothered,

This was in the shark tank,3 dead albino sharks?
One at the back,one in the centre by the bogwood and the other one floating around in front of the bogwood.


This was a gourami,just floating there dead,poor soul


And here's an albino cory in the centre on its back,also seen another one stuck around the side of the rock

it really is sadening to see things like this, they should be removed at first sight. who would buy fish from a tank full of dead fish......?

It's really quite pitiful, but unfortunately the people who own and work for that franchise obviously only care about a quick buck (quid?) and don't care what cost it comes it.

Certainly makes me think that they either

A) Do not quarentine

B) Buy from poor quality sources

Personally I think it's likely to be a mixture of both...I don't think any chain stores should be able to sell pets. And if they really have to then they should be judged on a store by store basis, and re checked whenever managers change.

Pets at home only seperated bunnies n guinea pigs about 2 years ago. And it's been known for a long time that bunnies can easily kill guinea pigs...
If people want to keep them together...then that's their choice. But I personally think that stores should be doing the 'correct/right' thing.

I don't think its fair to say that the people that own P@H are in it for the money, because each store is part of a franchise, and the care of the animals comes down to management, not the franchise itself.
Some pets at home stores are incredibly good!

i think the main factor is that the majority of the people that work in pets at home don't care.
theres a guy at my local pets at home and he knows what hes talking about and is always happy to help people out and offer advice, but no one else that works there knows anything about keeping fish. i once saw about 8 little clown loaches all dead in one tank there, and theres always at least one dead fish somewhere.
IMO it should be harder for chain stores to sell live pets, they should have strict regulations in place, and they should only be employing people that know what they're talking about

It is very sad to see all these dead fish and on most visits to these places, usually there is one guy or girl that is very well informed and then tons of saturday kids, it's a shame , most surprising thing about these latge chains is they finf really unusual or uncommon fish from time to time and you wonder how long they are going to last in there ?
