hey

i stopped by a lps that had a wide range of fish, in terrible conditions, and after seeing a green sev in a 18 inch tank in poor conditions, and after reaqding about Sir&Ladys and Wolfies rescues i decided to do one myself.

BUt first i decided to ask the workers there a couple of questions, i asked how long they had it and they said they had it for a couple of months and it's the size of a 50 cents aussie coin!!! i got it for a quarter of the price because of that and hes now in my 40 gal and seems to be hanging around my keyholes and african dwarf. as he grows i will hopefully have got a new tank but if not ill take him to my trusted lfs and ask for him to be in one of their display tanks

i think he has a swim bladder problem as he falls alot and swims on a angle but is slowley improving

*update* since no one cares

the sev is awosme anf fine and has adapted really well to the tank, doesnt even touch the neons which i hoped he wouldnt,

he looks better already and is showing alot more colour

i was just wondering how long i can keep him there for until i give him away?

Hi Dwarf_dude

Thats a good thing you did for the fish.

Severums are great fish but they can grow quickly. Mine grew from 1 1/2" to 6" in less than six months but they were in a 6x2x2. Once bigger he will think of the neons as food.

Yours might not grow that quickly as he is probably stunted due to his time in the lfs.

Is that the same as a 40g us? Or is it a 40g breeder/ 40g long? He may be fine in the tank, but the neons would definitely be eaten eventually -_- Severums make great pets, good luck with him/her if you can keep it! :)

severums are great, but i think they are seseptible to ich, for some reason many many of them have ich  even some of mine :-(

 They're not abnormally susceptible to ich, at least not more so than any other cichlid

Are you haveing a hard time wth your ich? :/

Hey dwarfs ... I kinda missed this post..I've had my Sev for about 3 months now and he's quite a character ...He's peaceful enough but i've read they get more pugnatious with age. Hope you can keep him. Congrats on the rescue!!

Yeah, sevs are awesome. Your neons will deffinately become food down the road. Also, once the fish gets bigger you'll probably need a bigger tank. A full grown sev can live in a 55G, but would do much better in something like a 90+. I wouldn't keep anything less hardy than a congo tetra with it, just as a target fish.

Nice to see another rescue in progress :)

Jon

I've got my Sev with a pair of Clown barbs and a Blue gourami. So far so good but if i see any aggression they can go in another tank.
