Well I guess I will tell you the whole story, since I am so excited about getting the new thing  . Well today I went to the Good Will (Donation Co. to Charity, for those of you who didn't know) with my mother and well she is an antique crazy and loves looking around in those stores for stuff. Well while she was off browsing I walked around to look for stuff, for my fish tank I have now, which is only a 10 gallon. I came apon a beautiful hexigon 30g tank. I went over to look at it...naturally (who wouldn't? :p ) And it was only 75 dollars. It had all the equipment with it, and stone gravel and lots of fake plants. and It has its own stand and hood with a light. Well I didn't have the money which was disappointing and so we went home and when my dad got home, he told me to "Go get the junk out of his truck" And I was like ..."okay..." and there it was, with all the stuff included. :D It also came with a box full of stuff, it had 3 pumps on it, 2 filters, a timer, an airstone, and A LOT of flake and pellet foods. It was a crazy good deal. I was just so excited, I had to tell someone lol.

Now that I know how to fishless cycle since I have had a tank from before, I am going to try to start that process tomorrow. But while I am waiting for that to happen I thought that I could think of some fish to put in it. Does anyone have any sugestions for me? I'd love to hear them

The current 10g that I have, I have 2 guppies in it, 2 danios, and 1 white skirt tetra. I also have 2 bettas in different bowls. ;)

Congrats on the new tank. Good find. Goodwill is a good place to find old tanks. I have seen alot in them. Found a 10g set up for $5 once didn't need it so I didn't get it but still good buy. Had friend find a 125g tank, hood, and stand for $50 about 2 years ago.

I'm so happy for you! Your parents sound like wonderful people raising a wonderful kid :)

If you wanted to, you could put the fish you have now into the 30 gallon and make that a community tank with all kinds of other fish (assuming you'll research them and make sure they'll all make good tank mates-which i know you will :) ) And then you could make your 10 gallon a puffer tank! You could put at least 3 , maybe 4, dwarf puffers in there. Just make you sure you do ALOT of research on them first, as they can be really tricky!

Whatever you choose, good luck!

Hmmmmmm........ well me personally would get some type of live bearers but you do what you want .... if you're not intrested in breeding it will make an EXCELLENT tropical tank but if you did want to breed there are alot of cichlids you could breed in there

Thanks for all the kind replys :D . ... Wow! A 125g tank, hood, and stand for $50. That is a GREAT deal. ;)

Yeah that is a good idea, I was planning on moving my fish from the one tank to the other if I made it a community tank. I have always thought puffers were adorable too. Hmmm thanks for the suggestion, I appreciate it. :)

Cichlids..hmm now thats what my older brother suggested, but I don't know to much about them. I never took the time to read about them because I always thought they grew to large for my 10gallon. Are cichlids to large for 30 gallon tanks? If anyone can give me some information on them I would appreciate it.

Good cichlids for a 30 gallon would be rams and dwarf cichlids like apistogrammas (sp?). I'd ask in the new world forum, as they know a lot more than me about them (I asked about them for my tank and they helped a lot)

My brother got a find once, he managed to get a 55 gallon....for free. Spring cleaning came and somebody put it out on the curb. That sucker was home faster than you could blink lol.

I also found a 55 gallon at the side of the road and took it home! Lucky for me that I filled it first about 3/4 the way full to check it's stability, because the plastic piece in the middle was broken and the front (or back) glass bowed out!!!!!!

Needless to say it is soon to become a reptile tank in my classroom.

Okay thanks, I will ask about it in the cichlid forum. ...wow 55g for free? Crazy. You both got lucky :p

So speaking of good deals, I went to petco and bought a 12 dollar 10 gallon tank, 15 dolalrs worth of gravel, 25 dollars worth of plastic plants and then bought over 50$ worth of meds and at home test kits that I didn't need.

My running total so far, not including fish, is over 130$.

Now THATS a good deal ^^ lmfao.

Anyways, I've always kind of liked corys, but I didn't get any until just today, so I can't tell you much about them. Livebearers, mainly guppies and swords, are really cool looking and are quite active, althought I have a really hardy molly for a couple weeks when my tank was still young. I loved that molly :(

30g is fine for some cichlids, just don't put and pikes or oscars in there, lol... I think I'd load it up with catfish, because they look cool ^^ Just check size and compatability specs and do whatever you like.

Yeah I know how you feel, when I got my first tank which is a 10g it cost me well over a 100 dollars :S , so I knew this tank was a great deal.

Yeah I like cories and catfish too...hmm so many choices :p
