hiya i just baught 6 yellow labidochromis yesterday and today at 3:00pm a male and female spawned i didnt know what sexes i had but it was a very big shock i hadnt even had them 24hours and spawning allready.
just wanted to know how long the female should be holding the eggs for?
and will the fry be okay in the same tank as the others?

Females hold for about 30 days. Some to all of the fry will get eaten, depending on how the tank is setup, and how secure a spot they can find.

Wow, they didn't hang around!

Good luck with the fry.

thanks, i would like some to live if the female does hold them and doesnt eat the eggs.
i have a 2ft tank but right now it has betta fry in so maybe they will have to take there chances in the tank.
im planning on getting much more bogwood and fake bushy plants as i was told they eat live

We had a yellow lab that had some babies and we thought they had all been eaten, but it turns out one survived! They will hide in the rocks until they think it is safe to emerge. This will usually be when they are too big to fit in the others mouths!
I'd leave the female where she is, she won't spit the fry until she thinks it is safe and then once she does, you probably would not be able to find the fry to move them. Leave them be and see what happens.

WOW another 2 have spawned omg how lucky can that be, buying 6 and having 3 females and 1 known male.
im hopeing they will hold the eggs and give me some fry ill have to keep an eye out as ill have to net them up.
one female has been holdng eggs for 4 days and i was told if they do hold for 4 days then the eggs are fertile

You're going to be up to your eyes with yellow labs soon!

I work on the LFS and one day we had a shipment of maturing sunshine peacocks and they actually spawn on while being ship...and when we got them some females are already holding....
