My mother and I went to Petsmart and Petland today to price tanks... I never actually imagined she'd do this, but my mother bought me a brand new complete 80 gallon setup!! The only thing it's lacking is a canopy! I just spent the last two hours assembling the stand, but the actual set up will have to wait until tomorrow since we forgot to buy more sand for substrate today... I'm so excited!!!
Aristotle the oscar watched me put the stand together. I can tell he's curious... just wait until he sees his new home!!!

As a bonus, I found some dwarf puffers, which I have been looking for FOREVER. I've got two in a heavily planted overfiltered 5 gallon right now; will this be ok for them? If not, I guess I could always run out and buy another 10 gallon

Wow, you got one generous mom there. My mom would never have done that for me. But otherwise my mom is the best ;)

I never would have thought mine would do that, but I guess she just went crazy today

My family support my hobby. Actually, when i first got this tank it wouldnt have been so if it wasnt for may parents. AND my brother! (I let him choose some fish he wanted)

If you ask my mum, she wants me to get more. She finds them very relaxing, and stares at them with me for ages.

Yeah I can imagine. When I was living with my parents they wheren't the most supportive about me with fish keeping. They just didn't take it as seriously as I did.

Ok since it's not letting me edit my post for some reason.......

Sorry for the double post

They did support me, they just didn't pay for much to help me out

Wow. That's awesome. My parents support my hobby, but dont want a million tanks in the house. I currently have a 35, a 10 that is my temp house when I do a complete clean, and a 5 that is only set up when I have fry that I want to survive in a threat free tank. The small 2 are only set up when I need them, and I have to take them down the day the fish come out. I will get getting a 90 in the next few weeks, and the only condition is that I sell my 3 other tanks. I was gunna sell the 35 anyway to help pay. They told me that instead of having the 10 and the 5, I should spend a bit more and buy a new kit that has a light and a filter, instead of my mish mash of parts. And to top it off, my dad is increasing my rent to pay for the extra energy the tank will be using. :grr:

wow. Did I get off topic there! lol

Congrats on the tank!

ahh, you got a set of parents like mine that make you pay rent. Kind of stinks, not to mention charging your own kid to live there

They let me live rent free for a year after I finished college. It sucks, but I'm paying a fraction of what I would be if I were living out on my own. I would rather not pay them anything, but more than anything I would rather not be living at home still. I would be sooo much happier if I were out on my own (I did it for 3 years at school, so moving back home to work at my part time job was not high on my Super Happy Fun Time List. lol)

Yeah once you get that little taste of freedom coming back is harder. Since there isn't somebody to tell you to clean your room ;)

Well done Synirr's Mom.
You have her well trained!

5 gallons is a little small for two dwarf puffers, you may have trouble as they mature and end up with just one...it depends on individual personality.

To be on the safe side, they really should be upgraded to something bigger.

Good luck with the 80!

Thats very lucky maybe I'll mention this to my parents, But something to be carefull is that when buying a tank the most expensive part is the canopy and the stand so your still looking to spend another couple hundred moneys

lucky you, my mom wants all my fish gone. she says im wasting too much water and electric. when she sees that my room light was on for 10 minutes, she blames me for the electric bill being $140  blames me for the high water bills even though i didnt do water that month to see what she says
