They've all settled down now and utilise a fair bit of the middle water as well. I think they've finished moving shells and sand about tooJust waiting to see if any fry appear.
I was just wondering about the sexing...it seems to me that 4 of the fish have chosen their specific shells and 2 seem to guard non shell areas (not that there aren't enough shells - the tanks filled with them). Is there a definate hard and fast rule about who lives in the shell ie females or males? I've read/heard conflicting reports. One says the males have the shells and lure the female inside and another says the opposite![]()
Usually a male and female will guard/dig/aquascape a few shells together, but the female will spend more time hovering directly over a couple of chosen shells and inside, with the male generally out in the open protecting his area.
