I have my first guppy fry!!!!!

At last i have guppy fry one of my guppys that seemed to have been pregnant for over 2 months now finaly started having her babys this afternoon. She has had about 40 or so, so far but still looks very fat and still has a very dark coloured gravid spot. Do you think she still could be due to have some more.??? They look so cute. Mother and fry seem to be doing well and she dosnt seem to pay them any atention as of yet so i hope she dosnt eat any as i have left them together for now untill i know she has finished.

Congratulations!

She could very well have more if she is a big fish, as many as 60 or 80 even!!! I think the record is well over 100! WOW!!!

Some fish will eat their young but others just leave them alone, I've actually seen a platy while giving birth with a baby sitting on her nose (for want of a better word) and she just ignored it!

I had my first guppy fry on Sunday! It's so exciting! It was completely unexpected as well as the Mum had been in isolation as I'm nursing her back to health as part of my job at the LFS. They are SO cute!
Mine only had about 25 when I found her but then she had a few more. Quite interesting, she ate the weaker of them and payed no attention to the healthy littluns!!
Congratulations! Aren't they simply adorable?!?!

Yay, congrats on the babies!

Usually when females are pregnant, they have lots of fry, so I'd expect more if she looks like she can have more. They can have them over a few days, so give her some time, and if she'll eat, some good, high-protein foods (Bloodworms, Brine Shrimp etc.) so she can keep her strenght up. Giving birth is hard work!
