a 5mm long snail i have never seen this snail before but it looks kina kool its like a spiral and goes down to a point can anyone help me identify this snail and another thing should i get rid of it because they will multiply by their selves and ill have too many.

that's probably a malaysian trumpet snail. great for maintaining your substrate, not a plant-eater. will prevent pond snail infestations as it attacks other snail species.

hope you don't mind the way snails look; if you find one, you'll probably find others. its just a matter of time for them to grow large enough to become visible.

so your saying i could have more of these?

can you tell me what fish eat snails plz because i dont want tooooooo many.

they will take over my tank.

Dont worry, its just a malaysian trumpet snail and its presence is seen by most aquarists as a good sign that the tank has a healthy eco system going. The help in the tank by keeping the substrate aerated by their burrowing and control pest snails by eating their eggs, also as they are meat eaters they will not harm plants or deprive algea eating fish of their food.

That sounds like the kind I ended up with from Petsmart (I bought some fish and they scooped it by accident). It stayed buried in the sand most of the time. I almost never saw it. As a matter of fact, I had forgotten about it. I've completely cleaned that tank so he's definitely gone now.

my brackish tank is overrun by these...in the day it all seems normal but in the evening the tank glass is literally covered with them.

with each vac now though i'll transfer the adults to my puffer tank

lol give the puffer a treat
i put him (snail) in the 20 gal and hes dug him self in the gravel so i cant see him now i thought he was quite kwl ve had the plant for about 4 weeks and i only saw him because i moved the 1 floating plant to a bare bottom tank so i could clean out my tank and after about an hour i saw it my first water snail kwl.

Trumpet snails are uncontrollable, but I love them. Great for the sand, great for the tank in general.

I was going to ask something similar actually...I found a snail today - about 5mm in diameter. I can't say it went to a point though. It MAY not be a trumpet snail. Are there any types of snails that I SHOULDN'T have in my tank? I did try to scoop it up, but a fish pushed it off the glass, and I couldn't find it as soon as it dropped into the gravel...

common pond snails are of the devil and do nothing but eat plants lay eggs on everything and multiply. unlike trumpet snails they are useless.

trumpet snails in my opinion are indestructable. they can live through alot of different water conditions and temps and i dont know of any fish that will eat them.

they multiply quickly but are harmless as they wont eat plants and don more good than bad plus the only time you see them is when the lights are off.
