Hi all

I have a Cichlid tank with a range of different type from lake malawi to a peacock in there, anyways...I havent been looking at my tank recently (mums been looking after the fish I have been busy with a new job) so recently when I actually inspected the tank I noticed little fry hidind underneath a rock (very small hole). I had no idea I even had a preg fish. There is two hiding underneath one rock and when I inspected closer I found 1 more fry hiding underneath another.

I only have three types of fish with 2 more of the same kind and they are Cobalt Blue, Yellow Tail Acei and Electric Yellows...so it has to be from 1 of those 3.

They are about 2mm long, not sure how old they are but I need some advice. I cant get them out so I have bought a mesh net and covered that area of the rock so now they have around 5-10cm worth of space instead of a 2cm cave that they were hiding in, I have done this so none of my big fish eat them. I bought this liquid food from the fish shop and I have no idea how much to pour in the tank? I have 3 living fry hiding at the bottom in a 55gal tank. Also, does anyone know roughly how long it takes for the fry to grow to approx 1-2 cm? And am I meant to do more water changes now?

Thanks for any info and advice.

You really want 'em out of there to raise them seperately, syphon them out with a hose directly into a bucket and move them to another tank. The liquifry will not be of any use in a tank with other adults as the main objective of the liquifry is to start an infusoria culture in the tank where the fry is kept. The fine powdered baby foods (no.1 & 2) will be more appropriate.

Hi, congrats on the fry.. ive found the odd fry in my tank hiding under rocks but they never last long as they get hunted down, especially by my peacock.

If your dead set of saving them, you wanna net them out asap and seperate them in a bucket or something. Putting them in one of those breeding nets is no good as cichlids can suck the fry through the netting.

And you dont have to feed them for aslong as they have their yolk sack. That will give them everything they need but as soon as its gone, then is the time to feed them.

Good Luck.
