Sorry, i was going to post this in the other hardscape thread i made, but felt that it had lost its way a little in theory and didnt want to spoil it with specifics.

Well i went out on the hunt for wood and found these 3 pieces, they fit together really well and look better than on the photos. But i have to admit, maybe they look a little chunky? and also have u noticed that all the ends naturally curl in the same direction!!

Whats do you think.... Only cost me £10 ...is ADA still the way to go after finding these pieces?!?! I am very happy with them, i think i would prefer a longer piece to break the water surface and a few more ammendments but at the end of the day if i pay my £90 for ADA wood from AE, i can`t see the wood in person, i can`t see how it will look in my tank, and even then, i won`t be able to pick pieces of wood to give me the speicific look i am after.

I think these pieces would work nicely!

Please, your honest opinions....

Chris

This is the ADA old wood available to me for £90.

Well done! Good find!

Those pieces remind me of someone elses wood, they were planning on putting anubias all around it though. What are you planning? I take it this is for your Nano not you Rekord 70?

lol, sorry i seem to been confusing quite a few people, Sam presumed the same yesterday.

The nano idea was scrapped a while back!! I am now going for another 24 x 12 x 15 fully ADA setup. Basically, i will replace the rekord 70 !! I have no need for it anymore, the hardscape is all wrong and i haven`t the time to have two tanks on the go. So i am slowly building up my equipment ready!

Hope that helps. Obviously, u will now realise that wood is actually quite a bit bigger!

Chris

The wood you have got is OK but I think it could be arranged better. I'm not a fan of mopani wood though I must admit.

The ADA wood looks a bit weird to me, a bit blocky. How long is the tape extended to 12"?

Ahhhh k. Personnally i loved your Rekord 70! It is great! But i do understand how looking at other peoples tanks you know it can be done better! But why don't you just re-aquascape the Rekord 70? :S

how would u arrange it old white..i`ll post pics of the individual pieces.

But it this way, it was only £10. I really cant justify spending £90 for that ADA wood, it doesnt look great imo!

I think it's very hard with these type of things unless you are checking it out up close.

The mopani wood, it's tricky because you can only have it one way, you have two pieces kind facing the same way I would avoid that, maybe go for a lower kind of structure and arrangement rather than trying to have the sticking out thing.

Did you get these from world of water?

Why do you say go for a lower structure!!

I WANT a sticky out kinda thing, thats what i have in my head and thats what i want for my tank! I understand what u mean about the wood only being used one way!

Well if it means wating the money then so be it! I`ll have to go for the ADA and hope!!

btw, yea did go to the world of water! it was quite good!! was a fair distance tho!

I can't say I like the ADA wood better...in fact, I don't like it, and wouldn't pay that much for it under any circumstances! I've had pieces of a similar shape to a couple of them and had a hard time doing much with them.

I like the new mopani better. I like the first option best, but I don't like the far left piece with the lighter color on the tip facing up. In your other two arrangements you have something horizontal and I think it is better, rather than all semi-vertical. Maybe if you do the first arrangement but lay the left one completely on its side. What does the other side of it look like? Can you lay it down with the "front" on the ground and have it curve around towards the back of the imaginary tank, flat on the bottom? You could plant it with some anubias nana petite, and create a nice line to have an open space with ground cover to the left of the wood. In the front, to cover the lower portion of the wood behind it which might then look awkward, you could attach some java fern windelov. I love that stuff. It tends to grow nice and round and have a very frilly look to it. It depends on what style you are looking for, though. I myself see everything in lines that guide the eye around and create seperate spaces.

Not a bad price, but the majority of Mopani leaches like mad (even with some boiling and soaking for several weeks) and will continue to do so fairly heavily for a good few months :/

I recently got some real bogwood here in London - only gave it a quick rinse and put it in the tank. Not a single tannin the eye can see and it's been over a week now.
I'll try and post some pics tonight.
