for all my batches of fry I've been feeding them boiled hard egg yoke for the first week. Mash it up and swirl it in the water(protin clouds) I've not lost any fry except for that filiter issue.... those poor guys.

I'm wondering if there is anything else they will eat that small other then liquid fry food ... I find the egg is messy. and they don't seem to eat crushed flake. I'll stick to the egg for now but just looking for some other things.

Thanks.

hikari makes a product called first bites, formulated specifically for fry. you may also want to try frozen BBS

Many newborn small fry will eat microworms or Walter worms, they will also eat newborn baby brine shrimp or even decapsulated brine shrimp eggs. Another great food for newborn small egg layers is infusoria. Unfortunately it is hard to find except in the oddest place. Mystery snails use infusoria for their digestive process so they always have some on and around them. If you see a microscopic fry picking at the shell of a mystery snail, you will know what it is eating. Infusoria also end up inhabiting the outer surface of most sponge filters so that is what the fry picking at the filter are doing.
A newborn livebearer is usually big enough to eat crushed flake so they are not as hard to feed.

baby daphnia, newly hatched brineshrimp and powder fry food (available from the petshop).

At my local PetSmart the have Hikari Baby fish food. It is finely grained fish food that encourages growthin your fry.

yup. its called first bites, as mentioned above. good stuff. the granules are small enough for even new freeswimmers

Thanks everyone.

I'll have to order some things from online..... We only have three stores here that even carry fish... and they are not the greatest ... so it's hard to find specialty items for fish. When i buy tanks, plants or filters stands or heaters and even to get a healthy breed of any fish .. I have to drive 2 1/2 hours to get to a store that carries everything. lol. But once you get to the store... WOW it's really nice. lol.
