Well, it's a year since I had my back operation, so it's a little over a year since I had to sell my 17 betta boys :( and boy have I missed having one around. For weeks now I've been trying to get hold of one with no luck. Either people don't get back to me, or they end up too expensive. So I decided in the end, why not have a regular LFS betta, they are just as lovely and don't hold the large pricetags of the posh imports! There is a LFS that has a small row of barracks, so I watched them for a while - they had 3 CT's and some VT's but I went for a quiet looking CT, one that wasn't flaring at his neighbour!!

I really wanted to try and have him in my 135L community, because the stocking is gentle and poses no threat. Plus this little guy looked younger than the other boys. Anyway, he is loving his new home and my daughter named him Eric lol! He has so much space, he can't believe his luck. I watch him most of the day as I work in my kitchen and he is playing in the current and playfully giving occasional chase to the others but nothing to worry about.

So I'm officially a betta owner again :D

Yep here he is - double ray extension with lovely red fins and a greeny blue shimmering body

No certain stores will stock more exotic bettas, you just have to travel around. I went 40 mins each to get this one, I've got 3 LFS that are all about 30-40 mins away that will usually stock something a bit different, other than that its standard blue or red or if it's any other colour will always be a VT, whereas the other 3 more further away ones will stock various colours and tails but not all the time, they can go weeks with empty barracks.

i saw one like this down LFS for £5... bargin i though i was begging my mother to let me have it there and then and i promised to be good etc. Like kids do. But no hope and now hes looking a bit boared and slightly slugish so wouldnt want to bother with him now.

I got my new betta boy today, very unique like u r s mine was a bargain £2.50....love him to bits think he might be a Pastel/Albino with maybe a bit of gas colouring he is a VT.....

Gotta think of an easy asian name for him, I started a thread on here in Bettas, what u think?

Eric is wicked though!

In all the time I kept my bettas alone in smaller tanks, I'll bet there were a good few of them who would have preferred a larger tank, with buddies and a current. I am astounded at how much fun Eric is having in 35 gallons with a fairly strong current, he wiggles about and swims up and down and let's the current take him up the other end again  he either ignores the angels or swims alongside them. I know each betta has their own personality and I purposely chose him for his peaceful appearance in the shop but I now feel so bad I had so many bettas in little homes with no filtration, no friends, I bet so many of them would have loved the other life that Eric has got now.
