Durb - did you take the impeller out of teh filter when you cleaned it? I have a whisper one and it was a pain to get seperated, so i'll tell you what i learned. Turn the base part 90 degreese (doesn't matter which direction) and PULL hard. That made it alot easier to clean out.
Thanks for that wilder.Waste on sponges or cartridges can slow the flow down that usually a sign the sponges what a rinse in old tank water.
Well you must have one of the older ones because they made the new ones quiet, mines quiet unless the water gets below the output then it makes the spalshing noise.I have all of them and the loudest one is the Penguin, no matter how high the water is its still loud. But if you dont mind the waterfall sound then pick that cause it is the best.
But if your sister in law wants a quiet filter then she should go for a whisper power filter 40 it filters 20-40 gallon tanks and I use it on my long 20g and its really good.
Well the one for the 20g recently started acting up and the one in the 10g was always acting up but forgot about it when I wrote that.Well you must have one of the older ones because they made the new ones quiet, mines quiet unless the water gets below the output then it makes the spalshing noise.I have all of them and the loudest one is the Penguin, no matter how high the water is its still loud. 9 days ago it was "really good?" Maybe there is something that you forgot to clean out. I would think that it would be unusual for the filter to go from really good to terrible in less than 2 weeks time.
