So the weather is finally barable outside so I am digging again. :/ Been having to add water every day beacause of a slow leak. My super cute doggie tried to cross the waterfall to get to me and took a swim instead, and tore a small hole in th liner. Since repairs are necesarry I am gonna go ahead and cement to avoid future mishaps.

Any super helpfull hints I can use all the help I can get. I only have three fishies at the time all goldies so I am houseing them in the super small upper pond.

my plan is dig it bigger cause well might as well right :D

use cinder blocks to build up the edges

thinking of chicken wiring the hole to give the cement something to stick to

oh yeah bottom drain should be tons of fun :D :D :D :D

Yeap over my head but I am miss fix it.

Any tips to get it done right the first time would be very very much appreciated.

Found three snakes living under the old liner tonight lol super exciting trying to round up my four cats that all had there hearts on a little snake snack.

Hi, I had a hole in the liner in our pond. They do have great patches. If you want and can handle it, also if you live in an area where you do not need a liner. You can make a mud pond. It is easy to do. If you have a clay soil, you can dig your hole, add water and can use chicken poop or 13 fertilizer. Either one will cause the algae to grow, which in turn seals your pond. For awhile you have to keep on adding water. If you use cement you have to let it cure, and keep on washing it out for a long while, before you can add the fish, the lye in the cement is harmful to the fish it can cause them to go blind. This is a subject I know lots about, ponds and fish ponds. First to test your soil, dig a hole and fill it with water, see how long it takes for it to go down. If you have any kind of clay in your ground, you can rent a tamper from Home Depot, and pound the ground to kind of make it hard, or sealed. You can also put the fish in when you use the fertilizer or chicken poop, it is not harmful to the fish. What is amazing, the Japanese in the ponds, they put a chicken house above the pond on one end and let the poop drop into the pond. We are digging mud pond now, and I hope to get rid of the liner in our other pond. Hope this helps. Let me know if you need anymore info. Oh another thing, if you use a pump, you have to raise the pump up so you donot suck up anything from the bottom. With a mud pond you do not need a filter, as the mud acts as a filter, and you can plant plants right into the mud. Hope this helps, Lynda

Our soil is very fluffy loose stuff. Wont hold water, but great for gardening. :)

Too bad. I do know that you have to really spray the cement to cure it and then really take days to wash it out of the lye. Too bad, if you only had some clay in your soil. Oh well I did try to help. Take care and there is a good site for koi
