Well only one survived... but he's getting big already. and no, not a human child, my giant danios spawned and somehow one of the wigglers has survived with my 7" JD and 8" plec vacuuming the tank at night. I can't believe I haven't noticed him until today but he is already a good size, ~3/8 to 1/2" long. I have seperated him into a make-shift refuge (large net I have for when I move next month to handle my JD and Plec) so that he continues to survive and not become a snack during the night.

I was wondering for awhile if the danios would spawn, have had them for around 6 to 8 months. Hopefully the danios will spawn again and I notice so more of the offspring have a fighting chance

Congrats, my favourite breeding exercise was also completely unexpected. I was trying to breed my cherry barbs, but after thinking I was unsuccessful I packed the tank down before Christmas and put all the plants and filter in a spare tank of water on the windowsill so the plants didn't die. Looked in there the other week and saw a tiny female cherry barb. What's most surprising is the tank is unheated but sat above a radiator so probably suffers massive temp swings. You going to try and spawn your danio's properly. There's nothing like your fish breeding to get you even more hooked on the hobby than you were before.

I originally just wanted a nice tropical tank of fish to look at. Now my cory's bred on their own in my main tank, i'm now actively trying to breed other species.

Good luck with the little fish.

I'm not going to try and actively breed them. If it happens naturally, cool, but I don't really want to worry about the off spring if I start running out of room for them. It's nice with one or two here or there. I can prob keep a shoal of 10 to 12 at max (have 6 adults currently) and then I think it would be just getting over crowded.

i figured they would breed eventually, just suprised me when it finally did happen.

I think (by reading the OPs second post) that he just had the fish for about 6-8months and they bred naturally.

They did breed naturally, and I know little about their natural behaviors. I originally bought them as dithers for my JD to make him feel a little more comfortable in the tank.

danios, or with my experience with zebra lay eggs every few days, they are egg scatterers and do have a nasty habit of eating the eggs.....mine used to lay all the time and they probably ate the eggs as well as any fry that survived became lunch for my male betta, if you want to breed them properly they need seperating, but i see no problem in survival of the fittest, especially when u don't have the room for loads of danios!

If you want to breed danios then what you can do is to have the breeding group in a tank with marbles on the bottom, that way the eggs fall through the gaps and the adults can't get to them.
