I Had A Betta For 2 Days Now

If I was you I wouldn't get ANY more fish until at least a month from now.

As the others have stated, cycling takes at least a month to do. And my guess is that you will lose a few more fish if your tank isn't cycled. This advice is coming from someone who learned the hard way.

I personally don't use the water testers. But that is because I don't have the money for them. I do water changes (where you take out water from the tank and refill it with new dechlorinated water) regularly and I have not had a problem with losing fish in the last three 1/2 years. BUT YOUR TANK MUST BE CYCLED!!! That is the only way you can keep from losing fish frequently.

So if you read the pinned articals in this part of the forum http://www.fishforums.net/New-to-the-hobby-f26.html you should learn how to do it. And if you have any questions about it, the people in there are usually more than happy to answer them for you.

Please don't put in any more fish until your tank is cycled. Please.

U are absolutly right , i'm not getting anymore fish, my mum said dont get any for a month too so thats what I will do!

I'm just going to wait now, and i know theres something wrong with the filter cos its making soo much noise!

And fish cost alot of money to keep! and all the extra stuff to help keep them alive!

Dude, I feel your pain. When I was a kid,I also lost fish to my ignorance. So many Goldfish, I will miss them all.Hey, I might just get that 150 Gal I have lying around in my spare room and get it cycled and ready for some Shubunkins!

Did you ask the lfs if he would take the fish back? Even if they say they can't give you money for them they should be able to give you a credit so once your tank was ready you could have used it to stock your tank.

As for testing your water, you need to do more than just your PH, most fish as you will find by reading the posts in new to the hobby are able to adjust to the PH, but its the others that are more detrimental.

Hopefully the rest of your fish shouldn't go the same way as the betta, and remember to be making regular water changes.

yeah, its the stupid pet shop man never told me anythign about the PH thing and the recyle thing, he just said leave water in there for a week then put fish. So you can see its not any of my fault but i the PH was really low and maybe thats why it died. My mum is well upset as she liked it and it was my fav fish cos of its colours. I was so happy to show my family the fish but i guess i can't now and i wont be getting anymore either

cost to much

Costs too much?¿ Dude, where are you?

EDIT:wait...I think I just read your display name right.... Is it like UK fan?Dude I feel dumb now. What's the little scaley dude's damage, how much are they over there?

Sigh. I know you don't want to take your fish back, but at the moment you don't have much choice. Please, stop making excuses and just do it. A lot of people here have given you reasons as to why and what you should do and you seem to be ignoring all of them.

You need to buy water testers. Not for pH, it's not THAT important, but you'll want to at the very least test ammonia and nitrite. When you've done that, come back and post the results here. Then people will be able to help you further.

You CAN cycle with fish - but not the amount of fish you've put in. It's recommended that if you want to cycle with fish you use five very hardy fish, which yours are not. And it takes a long time, more so than if you did it without. I cycled with five danios and it took well over a month before the levels went down, and that was with changing the water every day.

Speaking of which, are you doing water changes? With that amount of fish in such a short space of time, you'll be waiting to do frequent and large ones. When are you changing the water, and how many litres are you taking out each time?

Your aquarium needs bacteria. Basically, the bacteria convert chemicals in the water. At the moment, you've put in a lot of fish all at once. All of these fish are going to be making a lot of waste and at the moment you haven't got anything that can get rid of it all so your fish are being poisoned by their own waste. You need to give this bacteria time to build up, otherwise you'll overload it and it won't be able to cope and get rid of it quickly enough.

Where in the UK are you?

Oh because here in the states they're like $6, or at least that's how much mine was. They could be cheaper, who knows, but how much would that be in £?

Oh...I could thrive in the UK appearently.

But what would £4 be?
Like $8, right?

hey guys its me again :)

I was wondering if you can give me tips on how you clean out (water) your tank?

Do you guys take out a 3 inches out and refill to the top?

also would you advise to fill the tank water to the top?

Most people do a 20% water change weekly.
You can get a syphon pump very cheaply online, then you simply pump the water out into a bucket and pour away.

Make sure all the water you put back in has been treated - basic tap water is harmful to fish.

Did the store take the fish back by the way?
Do you have any pics of your tank?

right, just came from pet shop and he tested the water level with that ph thingy and he said the ph was very low he said it need to be 7 when its 2 so I have brought some but dont know if i should enter the entire packet or half of it, it says for every 10 galoon of water (37.8 L) and my fish tank is 3 foot

and do i take the fish out?
First of all, it's "cycling" not "recycling". Your fish died most likely from ammonia and nitrite poisoning, not the PH level, as bettas can survive in slightly acidic levels. What you should do is ask your pet shop to test for ammonia and nitrite. Please don't be hard-headed. Read this article first before you murder more fish!
