I had been going back and forth, planning an african ciclid tank after my clown knife and giant gouramis died (after about 10 years).

I had slowly been collecting stuff and getting the PH up for the 2 remaining fish, but didn't have any solid plans.

Fast forward to earlier this afternoon. I get a call from a friend of a friend. Bottom line, his new tank broke, his land lord is pissed, and he needs a new home for a whole mess of fish, and here I am with an almost empty tank.

So... 4 hours of salvage, and 18 fish later, everything appears happy in their new home. I have another 80 pounds of rock on order still and alot more landscaping and getting the various plastic things out of there (not to mention cleaning the walls etc... )My intention was to have a huge rock wall full of all sorts of nooks and crannies when I got fish.. but well, it was here or the local river.. (at 50F I don't think they would have made if 5 mins.)

PS, they were all in a 29 gallon aquarium, they are now in a 300 gallon, filtration is 2 fluval 404's and one fluval fx5

Here's my new tank... comments, concerns, questions... ?

4 - pretty sure they are yellow labs,
4 - Cynotilapia afra 2 blue.. two yellow (Id'd from another sight?) either yellow or blueish with vertical stripes
4 - cute yellow ones with horizintal stripes
4 - blue ones with a yellow top fin
2 poka doted catfish of some sort.

they are now in with an old grumpy black shark (if I could find him a home I would) about 14" and a crippled albino pleco (best guess broken back in shipping) been that way all his (or her) life (again about 10 years) swims sorta... eats fine... never really worried about him, he wasa free bee from the LFS when I was first setting up another tank. Theres also a community of commen guppies... not really sure where they came from, but have been breeding in that tank for a couple years. (again best guess is that I got a pregent female in a batch of feeder fish at some point...

Currently the tank is at 7.8 PH.. everythign else zero... sitting at 78 degrees, and has been up for about 10 years. any and all advice welcomed. I wasn't really planning on jumping in this soon. As far as I know, he only had his tank a couple weeks, so I suspect they are all juviniles..

Anyway... on with the pics..

yea, theres some annoying scratches in there from early on in my learning to care for an acrillic aquarium.. if let go (which I have to admit I did) it seems to grow on anything...

while Im at it, can anyone give me a hint to get rid of the 'fuzzy green' plant in there. It's been in there as long as I can remember, and clogs the heck out of filters. Somehow (net I assume) got in my turtle tank..

the 'plant' I am refering to (maybe algea) is the 'fuzzy' stuff one can see in just about any pic involving the gravel...

You have:

Yellow labs.
Metriaclima Lombardoi blue and yellow with verticle stripes (very aggressive)
Auratus (highly aggressive)
Yellow tail acei

And the black shark needs to go.

Aww the plec's kinda cute in a special sorta way! Keep us updated with pics and maybe post in the old world forum, those guys are extremely helpful when trying to figure out how to situate a tank. I wish I had space for a tank that size! My goodness!

If you want to keep the mbuna you need to loose all of your other fish form that tank to either another set up or else where.

5 actually.. I had some extras and couldn't think of a better place to store them. keeps everything nice and balanced

As for the shark, if I had a better place for him, I would happily put him there (any members anywhere near NW Washington want him, could meet you 1/2 way?) He's to big for the LFS to take, and I don't have another tank big enough. For now everyone seems happy, he's twice as big as any of them are going to get and its amusing watching everyone dart out of his way. I do intend to keep looking for a better home for him however.
