that is torture!! were is the filter and heater??

that tank looks too small for that fish too, get a 5 or 7 gallon or even a 10. add gravel and real plants he will appreciate it!!!!!!!!

Really you should try getting a bigger tank, even bettas need swimming space.

Also I see no heater or filter; you should get these immediatley.

Also check out some threads on cycling.....very useful.

Please research before just getting a fish.

P.S Everyone makes mistakes

How often do you commit to water changes? And how much water is changed every time? With a tank that size your looking at well over 2 complete tank volumes a week, which can be stressful for the fish.

Even if you can't get a filter immediatly, add a few live plants, they should be able to handle a minute amount of waste but not all of it. Also, I know that places like walmart and Ebay sell 7.5watt heaters which should be ok for that tank size, Ideally though a small filter a heater like a mentioned [Or better] and a 2.5-3 gallon at least [Ideally 5Gal] will be required.

The fish may be cheap, but the initial costs aren't. He'll be alot happier in something more suiting and appropriate, and, He can take the Silk plant with him! =D

I've tried, god knows I've tried.......in 2 separate threads as well *shakes head*

OP: You asked in one thread if a betta could live with no filter. The answer is yes, with VERY frequent water changes , but frankly you'd be making a hell of a lot more work for yourself, and your fish will not have anywhere near such a stable environment with regards to water chemistry and the biological cycle ( regardless of how long he's been in there ). It's not exactly a great existance living in your own waste. He doesn't need to endure it when you can get a cheap sponge filter.

You live in Canada yes? Not the warmest country in the world and unless your house is positively tropical for most of the day, it isn't going anywhere near warm enough to keep that tankwater at a stable 27 degrees C. They are tropical fish, they need a heater.

The tank is too small and one single solitary plant is pretty useless for hiding in. They come from areas where there is a lot of vegetation. It's good you replaced the plastic plant for this safer silk one, but one single plant is nowhere near enough.

Surely it would be better to put your money towards a larger tank than a plant

weelll , he is tryin a bit at least, the silk plant is better than a plastic one, soooo, any way yea a nice 5 gal would suit ur little buddy just right and a heater would make him much more active and enjoyable, with a longer live span. pluss with a bigger tabk you can put more stuff in it and make it real interesting to look at, like a nice setting of flowers or a fine arrangement of pictures they can be a focal point to which guests gravitate to look at, like a pretty little picture, instead of a little plastice pot lookin thingi..

and ur little buddy will realy appreciate it too!!!! :good:
