Damn damn damn. I did the potassium permanganate thing and checked the leaves of my plants but I must have missed a batch of eggs :(

I've gots loads of tiny tiny snails everywhere. I'm going to kill them whenever I see one to try and stop them from laying more eggs.

mine are too small to see what type they are. I'm really hoping they are not same ones I had in my last tank. They were such an eye sore. They grew to no more than 4mm wide, and they were round with a spiral design to their shell. And they bred like rabbits!

I know the ones you mean. I have no idea which ones mine are but some are big and black and some look like trumpets. Kinda like a small seashell you'd find at the beach. I thought it was something in my gravel at first but then it started moving. And there are a few of them.

As I said, great for algae control.

You might wanna try putting some cucumber or lettuce in your tank....the snails will be attracted to it then you can remove them by taking the vegies out (they will kinda stick to it)

The longer "ice cream cone" type snails are not all that bad actually. They largely come out at night, indeed, if you look in the tank in the early hours, you may get a shock how many there are. They are Malaysian Trumpet Snails and live in the substrate. They keep the substrate open and eat small food particles that drop between coarser gravels. I remove them when I see them, but there are still many in there.

I used to have a bad infestation until I bought 2 Botia striata. Keep them hungry and they'll get them in check. You could fit 2 in your tank no problem - they grow to about 4" max.

If you want to keep your snails in check the natural way...try getting some clown loaches ( if you have a 30+ Gal tank ) they love snail and you can hear them crunching away on them...I myself don't mind snails I have no damage on my plants and my loaches are happy and well fed..

:nod:

Then I wouldn't be able to have as many fish that I like. I need a bigger tank!!! But first a bigger house to have a bigger tank!!

Hmmmm...Ok just looked up Botia Striata...are these them:

They're quite nice. Do they produce a lot of waste? How would this affect my set up of:

6 Metae corys (grow to 5 cm)
6-10 Cardinal Tetras

I still feel like I need a centrepiece fish. Something pretty and brightly coloured. Having doubts about my cardinals now. Think about replacing with 2 dwarf gouramis.

//Edit
Queen loach also eats snails...http://www.petresources.net/fish/cyprinid/bot_dar.html and these are smaller.

Maybe skunk loaches would work in a twenty[ we have 2 of them in a 20 long with a few other fish .[ botia morleti] I know they eat snails.

Also I read on another forum , and don't know if this is true or not , that Malayan trumpets eat other kinds of snails . :) , just another reason to like having them .
