Just bought him today from p@h. He's been acclimatized and is exploring the tank now. Can't wait till he's ready for lights on, then I'll get some pics.
He's a lovely violet-blue colour with a darker head. He's really active and looks so healthy. I was going to hold out for something a bit more 'unusual' but I'm glad I got him. You see so many red and blue in pet shops, I think it's easy to get a bit blase, but they are still stunning and way more showy than most other tropical fish :D
Here are a couple of pics of his tank, taken earlier today

He seems OK with the current-I've filled it up as full as poss. so the water outlet isn't hitting the surface with any force. He hasn't been in his cave yet.
I have a few ideas for names-indigo, kraam (thai for indigo) and glastum (old english for woad, which they used before indigo)
I have some hikari pellets for him-when should I feed him?

Well, here he is :) I can't believe how hard they are to take pictures of! Moving about and then the camera focussing on the glass and reflections-grrr!
And it's just impossible to capture the colour, so hurrah for photoshop ;)
I've decided to call him Levi 'cos his colour's like denim :)

I think the advice is to wait up to 24 hours before feeding fish in a new tank.

My betta started eating after about 5 minutes. I would try him with a small amount when appears to have settled in.

I like the tank, I am wanting to add a coconut shell myself.

Where is the filter? I could not pick it out in the photographs.

I'll leave the feeding until tomorrow then, thanks for that :)
The coconut cave was a bit of a nightmare to make. I've done one for another tank at work, with a 3 yr old coconut, and left it whole, just drilled 3 holes in it. That was fairly straightforward. This one I decided to cut in half and make 2. It cut in half OK, but getting the hole in it was very difficult. 1 half just shattered-oops! Having said that, I quite like the uneven kind of finish of the end result. And don't worry-it's been sanded to within an inch of its life, lovely and smooth :)
The filter inlet is the clear tube to the left of the tank, the filter itself is all in the hood section.

These are great tanks for bettas, and you've made that one really gorgeous! Levi's beautiful :)

i see you have sand in your aquarium, i was wondering when you do water changes, how long does the sand take to settle? and what kind of sand do you use, and where did you get it? i want to switch from gravel if its not a pain!

That is a lush looking tank and an even more lush looking betta! Congrats, I really love the one of him in his cave :)

Thanks guys :) ev micheal, the sand is the play stuff from Argos. I washed it well before putting it in and I use a jug to gently fill up after water changes, so it doesn't really get disturbed much. Hover over it with the gravel vac and you can get most mess up easily too :)

What a beautiful betta that is!
I can't get over how lovely and amazing that tank set-up is its really nice and looks brilliant!
How many litres is your tank?

I LOOOVE your tank! And the photos you took of your pretty fish are great too!

that tank is fantasic and the fish is a beaut too. Makes me REALLY want a betta now. Ive got a 17L i want to use for a betta but im worrying about filtration for it.Think ill be going with a small air fed sponge thing
