he/she is a crown betta, red with a purple glow very pretty and calm so far. sorry the pics aren't so great.

i got some questions, is this jar good enough for my betta, and should i lower the water level or is it okay?
is it good to feed them tropical flakes that are mixed with bloodworms, flakes, brimeshrimps dried?
will my snail be safe in there LOL.

congrats on your first betta!
Is that his permanent home? how big is the jar?
if so i would get the little guy a filter and a heater [i dont think i see one?] as they have the same needs as other tropical fish and wont fair too well without one! snails are very messy little things so the water quality will go terrible very quickly!

it is 26mm tall and 15mm thick, no filter or heater.

They need 3-5g minimum, need heater for definate. Filter is also good but if willing to keep up on very good water quality then this won't be needed but do mean very often water changes mutliples a week espcially the smaller the container for the fish.

He does look stunning any names for the little guy?

Bettas are best fed on a varied diet with a staple of betta made food such as Hikari Gold Betta Pellets. They do well on bloodworm as treats with pea once a week to help clear out the system. As to flakes mine turn their noses up at it and unsure if suitable or not (anyone?) not sure on that hon.

i moved him into a 10gal aquarium with filter only. but the problem i see is that he is very scared and freaks out when i go check up on him. he scoots rapidly then stops in a corner at the bottom =(

Bettas are tropical fish so need a temperature between 24-28 degrees C. How you achieve that is up to you, but a heater is obviously the easiest option as it keeps the temperature stable. Fluctuating water temperatures can stress fish so it's better to keep to stable rather than rely on moving the jar around the house to find warm spots.

Bettas also need clean, toxin free water, like any other fish. Most will advise you to achieve this with a cycled filter (ask about that if you're not sure), but you can also achieve it through really regular water changes. You need to get a test kit (liquid tests are best) if you don't already have one, for ammonia, nitrites, nitrates and pH. Ammonia and nitrites are the most important, but you can get the whole lot for £15 if you search the internet for good deals on API Master Test Kit.

How large is the jar? To an extent, betta tanks are a matter of preference. If he seems happy, has things to do and places to hide/explore, and is healthy, then you're OK for now. You do need to keep an eye on him though. I would recommend at least 3 gallons, from my own experience, but it really is a matter of whether he is a happy boy.

I wouldn't recommend the snail. Produce lots of waste that such a small container won't be able to handle.

id say dont wait for anything buy a used 5 gallon from ebay (under five quid),buy a cheap heater,an azoo palm filter (8.99 dollars at drs foster and smith) 50 cents worth of sand a one dollar silk plant and voila a ##### in under 25 dollars!!!!
so buy and set everything as soon as you can and dont compensate for your bettas health.

Hi!
Your betta is beautiful! Luv it!
But the jar is a little small for a permanent home...
You can get a 5 Gallon from your lfs or second hand.
You will need a heater and a filter too.
Trust me, your betta will love you for it!
P.S. Hes a boy!

he is in a 10gal now with a filter only. the room temp (checked) is 76-80 so no heater is needed! but he is still scared.

Its great that he's in a nice big tank! But I do suggest a heater. When I first got my betta, I put him in a 10 gallon WITHOUT a heater. It worked ok because I had a nice warm room but then the tempeture kind of went back and forth and one time it was 69F!!! So I went to Walmart and bought a heater for like $12. Heaters keep the water nice and stable.
Also did you cycle your tank??
