We finally got air pumps in our store, FINALLY!!! :yahoo: And the Hubby was more than happy to get it for me, I think he has was alittle worried about the aeration for the snails and shrimp.
I ended up getting a 8in air wand because it came with an anti siphon valve and they didn't sell those seperatly and an air stone. I brought a tetra whisper air pump that can be used for up to 40 gallons. I had to go into town for tubing. I was so worried it wouldn't fit lol. And I also brought a 3 way valve. Anyway, That airstone makes a lot of bubbles...my rainbow shark hide most of the day.He ventured around right before I turned the lights off.
Should I turn the bubbles off at night?
They will get use to it I'm sure, right?
My husband has been asking me if the bubbles are correct biotyping for the black phantom tetras and the rainbow shark. I'm sure they will get use to them.
Anyway I also added a floating plant to the tank so my shrimp could have a place to get away from my shark. The rainbow shark one day decided he didn't like them, all well. I can honestly say I can't think of another thing I could add to the tank.
Unless someone else can think of something.
I would love to show you guys my little novice tank with all of it's plant, there are alot in there. But the camera is broken  I dropped it one too many times.

I got a MAXIMA air pump, 2 port if you want it PM me, I dont mind a RAOK top a fellow serviceman/woman.

What branch? army, navy, marines? i am thinking marines.....

I dont use air pumps, I had this one for a hospital tank and well It was a waste of time/money for me, my filter is more then enough to circulate and oxyginate the water, I do have CO2 on it but the air pump is practically brand new, old but new, I did the rebuild on it and it seems to pump more air then it did out of the box.

Air pumps are mainly used for decorations like bubble wands and ornaments, they dont do much for O2 levels in the tank, your filter takes care of that job alot better then an air pump does.

Hi there Hiya. I would try using that 3 way valve to bleed off some of the air and make the air curtain only give as many bubbles s you really want. Run the air line from the pump to the end of the 3 way valve, run the hose from the other end of the 3 way valve to the check valve and air curtain and use the valve opening to bleed off the air that you don't want into the room. I am running 3 air driven filters off an air pump like that and still have a need to bleed off some air. They are noisy, no matter that they call them Whisper, but they do move the air fairly well. My Rena air pump makes much less noise and moves just as much air.

 your right oldman47 whisper is just a name
...bleed out air into the room huh... I guess I need to unbury that 3 way valve in my gravel and cut some more tubing so that the valve will be able to do that. Oh man, more work. I wouldn't mind but my shrimp freak me out when they swim onto my hands and arms. fearless little things. Man, it didn't look right when I did it.

you can get small clamps that will ristrict the air flow and thus the amount of bubbles produced.

Some people say that can cause the diaphram in the pump to malfunction, but I've run my air pump in an sound proof box, along with clamps for over a year now without any problems.

what does, making a sound proof box? I made mine myself using an old box and some egg box foam which I already had.
