well, today i went to walmart, cause my uncle didn't want to spend a whole bunch of money on a fish. so i'm lookin at the fish, than at the mollies, than i look at it. so odly colored. so of course i bought it. so right now, it's adjusting to the water, and i'm looking through my book, and i'm lke, omg, IT'S AN AMAZON MOLLY! it looks exactly like the picture in the book. i'll post pix soon. man, for five bucks at walmart, not bad.

All mollys originate from the amazon, its most likely just a green sailfin which is the main coloring of wild mollys and is a good find :)

I agree with Toxis...most likely a green sailfin. The chance of getting a male P. Formosa is 1/10,000 or something. Not to mention how rare it is to even see one in stores. Sorry Oppositearmor, but you probably have a male green sailfin. Nothing to be ashamed of though, they are gorgeous fish. :)

how can it be green if it looks exactly like the one in the picture. i would post a pic of it, but i't s way too fast.

Well, since it's a hybrid of the Sailfin and Mexican Molly, the male Amazon Molly can look a LOT like the male sailfin Molly. If you think of the chances, of you getting a male Amazon Molly, and the chances of you getting a male sailfin Molly, the best chance points to Male sailfin. If you were to get a Male Amazon Molly, Walmart would have to go out to South America, spend a lot of time looking for a male Amazon Molly, and then send it back to the store. Seems like a lot of trouble to go to to make $5.

Were there others like your's in the tank?

did i say i got a male? sorry, i ment female. and the reason it looks like the one in that pic is because they are clones of the mothers. and yes, there were other ones in the tank, cept they were just normal mollies (black, 24 karat, silver, and dalmation). does anyone know where i can buy some marmalade mollies?

The one in the picture is male. If your fish looks like that, it's a Green sailfin female or something similar. Female Amazon Mollies look like this: http://www.tmm.utexas.edu/tnhc/fish/na/poe.../i_pformo.shtml

So your fish look like that? Because they look nothing like that picture....so I'm confused. -_-

And I've never heard of an Marmalade Molly...can you describe it, please, because it might have another, more common name. :)

huh, well it must be male, cause it looks exactly like the one in the picture. i would post a pic of a marmaladed molly, but my book is packed as i am leaving to go camping today (yes i packed a fish book, i can't stand being hours away from my fish). but i will describe it. it's the pacific type. it's sorta like a dalmation molly, cept it has orangish red spots instead of black spots. i would give you the scientific name, but the book dosen't tell me any of that type of sutff.

Actually no mollies originate from the Amazon as their distribution is limited to Central America and only as far south as Columbia, not as far as the Amazonian regions.
