well, today, while i was at my lfs, i went to just pick up some plants, and some neon tetras, and some ghost shrimp if they had any good sized ones. well, i got the neons, but most of the shrimp were gone and small, so i'm going through the tanks and i see this dwarf fire gourami, i was gonna get him, but he was hidding and i heard that fish that hide are often sick and won't have as long as a life. but then i was browsing the tank a little more, i see a discus, i really wanted it, but i didn't bring enough $ and my tank was too small, i see some painted fish, made me mad, and then a dwarf fire gourami?! i made sure he wasn't the same one, he was very active and all that stuff. so i bought him. not bad, i thought, it was only 6 bucks. i'll post pictures of him later. he is just so awsome, if i could, i would hug "it" (i don't know if it's a female or male)

well if its very colourfull it is most likely to be a male, females have a really dull silvery blue-gray color.

Sorry for jumping in....

Is it true that the captive bred blue neon dwarfs and red flame dwarfs are all male then?

-_-

i don't think so, but here's the pix, i reduced the size cause they were blurry.

i'm still trying to think of a good name. which do you guys like better? Ansem, or Sephiroth?

PRETTY!!! I like Ansem... but it could be bc I can't say the other name!
BTW, I don't think the colormorphs are just males. Since they are born with those colors, not injected, I don't think the breeders could pick just the male eggs to have that color... it's just that the females are a duller color, so it wouldn't really show up anyways. Just what I think though... I'm not a breeder so I don't know for sure.

here, i'll pronounce Sephiroth for you.

Seff-ear-oth

and ya, those things are pretty, i want to get a blue one now.

I visited a different supplier to my normal LFS last weekend and they had several different shades of blue dwarfs. They're pretty eyecatching and I'm glad to hear they're bred rather than injected!
:D

They had blues, reds and normal coloured dwarfs then a tank full of the dull coloured females, which was specifically marked 'female gouramis', hence why I thought maybe the blues and reds were all male.
:dunno:
