Hello,

I have a 39 gallon tank and am looking to purchase a pair ( male and female) of a species that is relatively easy to maintain and breed and preferably not too big or aggressive !

I would love some recommendations so that I don't make the wrong choice, I've done this before and  I deeply regret it... R.I.P Kribs

Oh I'm simply saying that I made a mistake and mixed kribs with another species and got them killed because I didn't get recommendations first

Get some more then? If there is a reason not to, what else have you in the tank?

Oh there would be nothing except decor in the tank, and I'd prefer to try something new

something easy to breed?.....hhhmmm.....guppys, but get more than two ;)

get lots of live plants too

What is in the tank now? What is the water chemistry like? Rams, Bolivian - M. altispinnosus - or German - M. ramirezi, are small and both very attractive, depending on your water type.  Apisrogramma as well, although they can be more aggressive when breeding.  Probably the easiest to breed would be Bolivian Rams and most peaceful of these listed.  Since you posted this in New World, I would just comment that Kribensis are African.  But like I said, one needs to know a bit more about the tank in order to make better suggestions.

Your tank is large enough for a pair of the smaller Central American cichlids. Sajica, hrp's, firemouths, elliotti , etc...
