Hi, got a 20gallon planted tank, diy co2, 7 neons and 2 rams

the other day i notices a snail, about a centimeter, crawling/sliding? accross the front of my tank. I only have the one and i was wondering, is it a problem?

I have absolutely no idea where it came from, what type it is and whether it has malicious intent. I understand they can be a pest, i was wondering, is a single snail a cause for concern or should i welcome it into my aquarium.

I never liked the idea of getting a snail for my tank, but he does seem quite endeering as i try and spot him.

I'll try and identify him.

I like the idea of a single snail, but i woulnd't want more. Am i going to be over-run with pest snails?

depends on the species, but most likely... yes. you will become overrun with snails.
normally, i would suggest clown loaches, but as its only a 20 gal. i would go with had-a-snail. itll work nicley.
as for how it got there, did you buy any live plants? if so, that is prob. where you got them from.

one snail can be cool, and a few will help out with algae, and sometimes, they wont over run you, so cross your fingers!!!

hope i helped.

i've been reading up and it looks to be a Bladder/Tadpole/Pouch Snail.

I was doing a bit of a tank remodel today and i pulled out the bog wood, once it had dried i noticed 2 gelatenous patched, needless to say, i paniced and washed them down the drain! now i recognise them to have been snail eggs.

I get all my plants from Tropica via the lfs. What i can't understand is that i have 1 snail and the fisrt time i saw it it was a centimeter long. i don't know how long it would have taken to get to that size but i find it strange that there is only one.

I just went though an algae bloom when my co2 ran out and the water got very murky, i transfered the fish and did a good cleanup job but there is still lots of algae on my bog wood - would a few snails clean it up well?

i need to do a bit of reading on reproduction cycles and growth rates.

as stated above, a few snails can be greatly benificial (spelling off)
u may only be able to see one snail. but their is a great likely hood that they are in the gravel or elsewhere in the tank. you probably got the snails from the plants. i believe that in the plant forum, there is a wonderful thread about getting rid of snails. if you read that you should be good! :good:

i dont find them a problem. i hav eggs all over my tanks but they are kept uder control by my betta in one tank and in the other my pictus, dollars, barbs and rtbs. if they werentther, i take them out and put them down the grid. i dnt like the stuff that knocks them out. i find it quite weird.
