My dad is in town for the fair, and we were planning on setting up a fish tank at his house. He's going to take care of it for me and put up a webcam so I can see my fishy all the time. We decided to go to Petsmart together and pick out our betta! It was surreal, after a year and a few months of researching and reading about everyone else's bettas and pretending to pick one out every time I'm at Petsmart, we actually bought one! We just got the Marina neon green 1/2 gal starter kit and Hikari Bio gold pellets for at the hotel, we're going to get him ready for shipping in a couple days and my dad will drive back to Ames with him.

I picked a brown guy with some blue and pretty orange in his fins. I think he's a mustard gas. We almost got one that was a bright red butterfly/cambo-ish one. White body, pure red fins, clear fin tips. The red ends jaggedy and a few centemeters of clear followed. This little brown guy just won my heart though! He's happily adjusted to the 1/2 gal right now. When my dad gets home he'll make the transition to a 10 gal, light filter, plants, and we'll try 2 or 3 albino dwarf corries.

On to HIM. His eyes are both half blue and half red. I've named him Fusion, I thought it sounded cool. He was going to be Curry, but Fusion fit better. I LOVE fis colors, but I bet he'll brighten up with time.
PICS!!!

He's gone back with my dad now. :-( I get to see him in August when I visit though.

 nice looking vt....looks as if he has had fin rot and its mended now.. good luck :good:

awww.. i like vts and lots of people think they are mutts

That is so great of your dad to set up a web cam so you can see him till you visit :D

Gorgeous boy you picked out

I can't imagine that you've researched all that much if you actually picked out a 1/2 gallon tank :\ though I have to say that looks larger than 1/2 gallon, was that a typo?

And I am trying to hold my tongue here, but I can't help it - if the tank is so small you really should fill it up to the top and not 3/4 full... heck mine are 3.5 gallons and I see no reason not to fill them up to the top.

Anyway... very pretty colours on that boy, hope his fins even out. :good:

They are only using the 1/2 gallon it seems to transport him. Which I agree, is a good idea. I transport mine in a 2 gallon. And perhaps the water is 3/4 full because of the transportation. I have tried once before to have my 2 gallon full when transporting, I wasn't driving, it had a lid on, in a box and on my lap, and I was drenched by the time we arrived at our destination.

I don't normally jump in on threads but had to on this one. I'm not going to say anything mean, but people please read the threads thoroughly before replying. If these two sentences had been read before posting a bit of "mild critisicm" wouldn't have been posted.

Very nice fish Iridescent. Hope he travels with your father safely, and likes his new home. I am sure you will see new colours coming out of him on the web cam in no time! I like his name too. It's kinda neat also and a bit symbolic. He does kinda "fuse" you and your dad together in a way too.

Yes, I'm sorry, I misunderstood, and I'm quite embarassed. I'll try not to let that happen again.

Just a word to those who said a bit of reading would have avoided it - I actually read the entire post carefully, as I always do, I simply misunderstood.

Congrats, again, on your handsome boy !

And that is one lucky little Betta. He's going into a nice, roomy 10 gallon, which is awesome!

Update! He made it pale but otherwise healthy, and he's started to make a bubble nest!
