I feel really stupid...........

well against advice from others ) i put 2 Dwarf puffers into a 2 gal, they seemed to have no problems but now im not so sure. the new one wont eat, and today i noticed a bit missing from him which im guessing is from my older DP. i need to know what do i need to do to make sure he heals and doesnt get infected. also what can i do to get him to eat(ive tried frozen blood worms and brine shrimp). i have seperated the new DP just incase. ) i know this was a VERY bad mistake and i really regret it now. im sorry for not listening to advice and going with wat i wanted

Well since you have separated the 2 fish let them settle down, because some new fish won't eat for a week depending on how much stress they have endured. So don't worry and if you want you can get a 10g tank to put them together or you can return the new fish and either get your money back or give it to a friend.

i cant get my money back as i cant find the reciet. i know one lfs that might take him but im not sure if theyll take him untill his wound is healed. i need to know what to do to help him heal becuase DPs are scaless fish and are stressed a lot more by meds then other fish. atleast thats what ive always thought. i might be able to give it to a friend but i have to find out if they can get a suitable tank for it first.(thiers is a 10 gal but has guppies and mollies and stuff like that)

Well some lps will let you exchange it for another fish once you heal the wound. You could take it to the lps and see what they think will work and just you half the dosage it recommends I don't know. Maybe somebody else can agree with me or give this person someother kind of advice.

Oh I forgot to tell you. Some lps will take it back even with the wound. Because they have hosptial tanks their to treat thier fish. That way you won't have to spend money on medicine or worry about giving the wrong dosage. But also if you want some lps will treat it for you and let you take it back after it heals.

i always keep certian medicines on hand so i never have to worry about rushing out to get any when needed.unfortunetly i can only get to the only lfs i know of that will possibly take him and that i trust on saturday so by then hopefully it have started to heal up nicely. i have given him a dose of melafix at have strength. also the place where i got him was at petsmart and they will only take him back if he was sick(which then they would just through him in the trash ) and if i had a reciet which i cant find anywhere so im guessing i threw that away.

he has gone to a brine shrimp or two a day but he barely eats that. what can i do to coax him in to eating more.

Well I just read about you got this fish from petsmart. Is their a feeders supply in your area? If so you don't even need a receipt. Just make sure the fish maneger is there when you bring him and they will gladley take him. And has it been a week since you seperated the two? If not like I said don't worry he is probley just stressed and mabye the wound has a infection in it and he feels sick . So like that last person said contiue the melafix and keep trying to feed him. All the info i have read about dwarf puffers recommends 5 gals per fish so you may be best upgrading to a 10 to keep them both.

emma12321: thanks but i already knew this. i just decided to go with what i wanted rather than what was best and as you can see(or rather read) that this reallly backfired.


Durbkat: the supplyer isnt in town unfortunetly. i was there one morning when they got thier shipment. and i asked why the water STANK real bad and they said its normal since theyve been packaged for a little under 7 days or so. incase you where wondering i usually buy fish a few days after they got thier shipment to make sure theyve had time to relax and possible present diseases can show thier selves.

i will continue with the melafix. hopefully i can get the porr guy to eat properly.
