I.d. This Repulsive Rock For Me Please

This ugly rock came with a second hand tank.  I haven't cleaned it.
 
Is this a piece of real coral?

Theres nothing ugly about the rock? Its a rock. And by the looks of it it was/is live. Is it a marine tank you’ve got or freshwater? Judging by the section this is in, I’m assuming its a freshwater tank you’re starting; i wouldn’t put this rock in  fresh water tank.

It's disgusting, trust me.  The underneath is black and slimy, the photo doesn't do it justice.
 
The tank is freshwater and has never been anything else, so I wonder why the previous owners were putting coral in it.
 
Sorry to sound dumb, I honestly know nothing about coral, I've never really seen it much before.  Should I just chuck it away or is it worth saving for someone else?

It's not coral, Corals are different.
 
It will be live rock, But now it's been sitting out of water it will be dead. If your not going marine I suggest you try and sell it as dead rock. A lot of people are after it as the price of live rock is insanely costly
