I bought a female gourami from my LFS that I was told was a dwarf. Unlike the chain LFS in my area, this one I've never had any issues with so I was extremely excited that I finally found a female locally. I think she's absolutely gorgeous, but I could be partial. :) Anyway, on to the issue. When I got her home and compared her to my male she's huge! She seriously looks almost double the size of my male. I'm not sure if my male is just young, or if she could possibly be another type of gourami. I'm gonna post several pictures of both of them. I apologize in advance for the photo quality. Camera isn't all that awesome.

Am I just losing my mind as far as their size? Any input would be greatly appreciated. :)

Pictures, as you say, aren't great, but she does look like a dwarf.

Agreed. Females are often larger than males (not just in gouramis, it's common to most fish).

Agreed, definitely a female dwarf gourami :) good find!

Although this is found in other types of fish, in dwarf gourami this isn't the case. The males are the larger of the two.

This is also common in most other gourami - although not as obvious as in the dwarf.

Your male looks very young! This is my male dwarf who is around 2 years old:

As you can see, yours looks very small in comparison - I would suggest that your male is only a few months old - they don't grow very quickly.

The reflection in the second picture scared me. :(

Females tend to be more mute in colors too, though opaline can get just as much hot and heavy as the males.
