Hi I think it looks good, but I think it might be eithor taller plants in the back or smaller plants in the front just to give it more depth.

trying to find taller and shorter but not having much luck, smallest i can find is 4 inch and i need smaller

Too bad you are in the UK, in the US Petco sells "Betta Plants" they are about 2 inches (give or take) and they are great as foreground plants. Here is a link to some of the ones there to give you an idea:

As for taller plants, I am in the same boat, I have a hard time finding taller ones that I eithor don't already have, or that I like (and aren't a fourtane). If you find any let me know.

stick with 3 but get that silly plant out fron the right hand centre of the picture. the pale one. its looks silly. :good:

ah bummer :(

we should swap

there are some of the 20" ones on ebay UK - see if they'll post to UK

I was just looking at the ones at petco and saw that they are 5 inches high, but once they are in the tanks they don't seem that high. So the 4 inch ones would probably work for you. I have attached some pics for the small one I have in my tanks to give you an idea. All of the little plants were advertised at 5 inches, but truthfully I don't think they look 5 inches once in the tank. I think once you burry the base in the substrate they don't seem as tall.

In the 12 Gallon (this is the one that looks the tallest of them all once in the tank)

the little ones (like the one between the big slate cave and little one (bright red) is actually 4" (well...i bought it as 4" lol)

I see which one you mean, and I think a few more of that size in the front might be what you need, or perhaps some taller in the might be why you think it looks odd.

I prefer it without the ruins, not natural enough for me. But in both instances, I think it lacks depth as all the plants are about the same height. Alos, not sure if this is doable with what you have, but they'd look better in bigger patches of the same thing, rather than dotted about.
Nice tank though and good to see you can get a good look with artificial plants. I still dream of a big community tank and I've been through phases of thinking of doing a high tech planted, then a low tech planted  But the tank I enjoy the most currently is my bowl with all plastic plants. Just so much less hassle.
Truck, I can't grow vallis, but then I've killed most of the easy to grow plants since I began at easter!

Thanks Ellena, I think thats it, I dont have many at different heights, not that I haven't tried to find them, and no, I dont have many of the same to make bigger bunches, as if I did do that, my boys would not have any green, they'd be all red and orange!

I have had to mix a few things up to stop being stuck with pink and orange, I had to put all the plants across three tanks

Hi Haych :)

To tell you the truth, I think that if someone isn't into growing a garden in their tank, then the simpler the decorations are, the better. IMHO, keeping an aquarium should be less about putting a lot of different things in there, and more about showing off the lovely fish. Everything else is a distraction.

In the end, if whatever you decide on makes you happy, then that's whats best. :D

Thank you inchworm :)

I'm kinda torn on whether to remove some plants (as I can't do gardens as you worded it  ) but I know Bettas like LOTS of hidey holes!

Will keep staring at it for a few days and see if it grows on me!

I've numbered a few of the plants which I think you could bunch together and they'd look better

As I was doing that, I noticed it was quite symmetrical. This doesn't normally work well in design (unless it's the intention and very obvious) Try and work with the rule of thirds (measure the tank, divide by 3 and place focal things on those imaginary lines) maybe remove some of the red/pink stuff and have one bunch on a third line?
