Well I'm going to be purchasing a 90g soon, and I have EVERYTHING down pat and decided (substrate, decor, filtration, everything) .....except for my fish, ha. I know I'm for sure getting an Oscar and a Jack Dempsey...but I'd like a 3rd or more fish in there but I can't decide what to make and I've tons tons and tons of research.

So....it's up to you folks! Ha, seriously though, what are some good choices for me? I'm basically down for ANYTHING that will go with these 2 guys. Some ideas I had were:

  1. Senegal Bichir
  2. any type of compatible catfish
  3. clown loaches (3? or would this be overstocking and/or a bad idea since I MOST LIKELY won't use sand as substrate since the oscar would swish it all around)
  4. silver dollars (not too enthusiastic about these guys but theyre compatible so...)
  5. Other

I'd love to have a 3rd SA cichlid in there like a Severum or Firemouth or something but I'd be afraid I was overstocking. So, what exactly can I get? Any ideas? The tank will be 48x18x25 inches and have a Fluval 405 external canister and a HOB AquaClear filter designed for 110 gallons (biggest one around here) if that helps.

senegal gets my vote too, mine are great fish.
You have enough floor space for a bichir and type of catfish too.

So a senegal and a pictus would both be ok? That's kickass, because I sort of wanted both :D. We DID have pictus' at my LFS, but not 100% sure if they're there anymore.

frontosa are cool and some other cichlids would make a nice addition to your plans! Electric blue's, Malawi eye-biter's, etc

Mixing Africans with New world cichlids is usually not a great idea.

Not enough room for a group of fronts in the tank. Eye biters would pick on everything as well as the electric blues most likely.

Now if your talking about scrapping the plans for the fish and going African then thats not a bad idea. Still, I wouldnt put a group of fronts in a 90 gallon, they really need more room IMO.
