A couple of weeks ago, (yes, weeks...) I noticed that my fish had a small case of ich. I put the temp up to around 82F, though my mollies don't seem to handle that temp very well.... I also put some more salt in my tank, even though I have corys. (The corys can handle that, though) I put around 1 teaspoon in for every 2 gallons. I kept on doing my weekly 20-25% water changes, because I recently had a problem with ammonia from using a disease treater. (THAT was not smart ! ) That disease treater made the fish worse, and I got rid of it right away by doing a 50% water change and putting back in the carbon. The 50% water change helped A LOT, but two weeks later, the ich STILL isn't gone! I've already lost like, 10 fish to this ich! It's the worst case I've ever had! Do you know why I can't get rid of it!? A few of my fish are still laying at the bottom of the tank, though they are still alive. I don't know what to do anymore! Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for any help! :thanks:

P.S. Will try to get pics of the deteriorating fish.

EDIT: Sorry, can't get any pics -- I'm not part of any picture website, so I can't put the pics on....

OK, I don't know why you posted this in the livebearer section. But I advise you to post this in the emergency section, and get rid of the salt and lower the temp. Get some parasite treatment at your LFS or ask them about your problem. Also did you use table salt? And if you did was it Iodized or noniodized(I think thats a word  )

Umm, it was aquarium salt that I used, but should I re-post in a different section?

You should post in the emergancy section, that way more people like wilder will be able to help you. Also, you shouldn't keep mollies and corys together as mollies require a brackish water enviroment and corys have an almost ZERO tolerance level for salt. If I were you, I would change the water to remove the salt and lower the temp down to a comfortable level for the fish.

You should not have any problem taking care of ich with salt and heat. There is a link in my signature area to a very good informative article on the life cycle of ich and its treatments. I have only had to deal with one case a couple of years ago but it was gone fast using salt and heat. Fish laying on the bottom does not sound like ich at all, it sounds like water quality issues. I suggest that you test your water for ammonia and nitrites just to be safe. Many "medicines" can kill your biological filter which can in turn mean 10 dead fish in a short time.

:thanks: for helping!

If you tried a ich treatment did you make sure that you took out the carbon in your filter. The meds don't work with carbon

Thank you very much, but I knew that. My ammonia is at 0ppm, as well as my nitrites. The nitrates are at approx. 30ppm. Cleaning the tank again today. I am so frustrated! :X

Yea I got just as frustrated when I had guppies and ich swept all of my platies out. I had tried 3 different meds and even a complete tank change.

But now you're doing better, right? I feel like this is never going to end... :(
