This is my first time having a real planted tank. I've had a few plants here and there, but this time I want it to really look good. I plan to have only a few types of plants, 4 at the /most/. I have 1.5wpg and I need to know what types of plants I can have... My plan is to have a carpeting plant (Java moss is my favorite) covering most of the left side. Would Java moss be okay for this? I will put a piece of driftwood in the middle, and have bare sand on the front-right, about 1/4 of the tank bottom. More of the same carpeting plant will be on the back right. I am still debating on whether I want a lot of background plants or just a backdrop think to stck on the outside of the tank... If I wanted plants, I was thinking maybe anarcharis. Is that a good choice for my lights? Also, I wanted a floating plant, what would be good that is easy to grow?
I am planning on having 6 rummy nose tetras, 3 panda cories, a few shrimp, and maybe 2 ADFs. I'm not sure on the type of filtration, I think maybe a Penguin Biowheel 100. The temperature will be about 78 F, 25.6 C.

i have a 10 gallon planted tank and its a 1.5 wpg

anubias is great but is a slow grower, plus it grows a flower, to put in the front
wendetii i like, i have a bronze 1 , its for midground , it grows pretty well
Lutea wendetti is my fav , nice leaves and its grows pretty fast
java ferns are gd for backgroud as they grow pretty tall
Java fern is the only carpet u an get for low lite I guess, i have some and its pretty , will take awhile to establish itself tho

I think anarcharis need high lite not sure tho

I also have a bio 100 penguin , its gd , no complaints so far :good:

Anacharis does not need high light. The growth will be paler and more thin, but it'll still do well. What it really doesn't like is the addition of Excel, and it doesn't like super-high temperatures. Otherwise, it's a great stem plant. Another stem plant to consider is rotala rotundifolia. A potential carpetting option for a low-light plant is Marsilea quadrifolia. I have it in a 1.4WPG 20g and it stays pretty low to the ground. Not as attractive as glosso, but it gets the job done. Yet another option fo a low-light foreground is HM. Some people here have gotten spindly growth with HM (Hemianthus micranthemoides), but mine has actually stayed pretty low to the ground, and the small leaves will make a tank look larger. I may seem to have more light than you, but light is measured differently in a nano tank, and WPG doesn't work well with smaller tanks.

llj :)

Oh. Okay, well, then I have 15 watts from my one (and only) light, it shows up purple and the tank is 10g. I really want Java Moss, I have it in my 29 gallon and it's really nice. Thanks for all the advice and suggestions!
