My Blue Knight lobster marches around the aquarium with his claws outstretched - back and forth, back and forth like a crazy guy... he eats well, molted recently - is he okay? Does he need Ritalin?

probably not, lol.

add a few caves, if you don't already have a few. they like to burrow, dig and generally move the items it the aquarium. i take it the cray is all blue, if so its a female. it should be a Cherax Quad or Australian redclaw, Blue knight is a marketing name, and not worth mentoning again. but it could be a Yabbie cherax destructor. big problem here though. the destructor is a temprate to cold water cray the Red claw is very much tropical.

Thank you for your kind answer. She is all blue, very bright and extremely active - yes, I've got caves and nooks and burrows and she is maniacally climbing all the plants - we're crazy about her and hope we can do everything possible to help her thrive! How do we tell if she is a Yabbie, cherax, cherax quad or Aussie Quad?

ok first off, Yabbie and cherax sp/destructor are the same thing. temperate freshwater cray. as are Cherax Quad and Ausssie Quad, though the quad is a tropical, the only one, crayfish.

a picture of your cray would help, but here are a few pointers.

Australian Redclaw/cherax Quad/blue lobster. these, as far as i can tell, are the only, naturally, blue cray. you will often find flecks of purple and red along its flanks, though not always, they have slender claws, which are more like forceps than the pincers. Males also have a red. soft, patch on the outside if its claws.♦

Cherax sp/destructor/yabbie has large and chumky claws, in its blue morph all highlights and vareation will be in shades of blue or white. no other colours should be there.

When I click" insert image" it asks for a URL - all my pics of her are on my computer..... How can I post a pic from my computer?

She does have very narrow, pointy claws - she is absolutely gorgeous and her antics are incredible!! We have her in a community tank - she has not shown any aggression to the fish aside from the first week when she took out the eye of one of our little octocinclus - but he is surviving just fine with monovision and she hasn;t bothered anyone else (most of the fish are bigger and faster than her and we make sure she is well fe)

for the pictures yu will need to sort yourself out an Image Host, Imageshack, Photobucket, are two i use. you upload the image to the host, copy the IMG link then paste it in your post.

well it sounds like a Australian Redclaw. as for living with others, some Cray do live in communitys. thing is there is no, real, way of telling if it will work, untill you try it. it does seem, however, that more mature cray, can be the best candidates for a community. but only time will tell.

WOWEE - stop the presses! Did a bunch of research and she is not a Redclaw - what I have is a Procambarus alleni - blue crayfish native to Florida where I live! Not a lot of information available about them though as to temperament, growth, compatibility etc... she is doing very well in our community tank, has olted once already and so far no casualties - we'll just keep enjoying her antics and hope for the best knowing that we may need to give her her own space at some point.

Thanks for you help!!
